Cellular network sign-in recurring issue

Whenever I lose WiFi (like when I leave home) I get an exclamation sign next to my cellular network strength symbol and a prompt to sign in to my cellular network which I can't resolve. I can make calls but I can't get any cellular data. This started happening when I updated to the latest Android 6.0. I've checked the APN and it's correct. Also tested the SIM card in another phone and data worked fine. I'm using a Nexus 5. Any help appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! It wants you to sign into your mobile data connection? Can you make voice calls if you don't sign in?

D'oh! Just realised I had forgotten to top up my prepaid data which has run out! Crisis solved. Sorry for wasting your time.
