Certain songs won't play on default music player?

I've noticed that Android and WMA files do not get a long so well.

I'd like to find out why songs I download from Tunee stopped playing on the music players on my phone. Spotify and Google Music both. They used to play but stopped just 2 days ago. When I transfer the songs to my Macbook, iTunes won't play them either. I can see that they are .mp3 files in the finder. What's funny is that if I open the files with VLC or Doubletwist they play just fine. Any ideas?
