Certains apps not working on home Wi-Fi but work fine on mobile data and other connections?

Certain apps, most notably social and dating apps, don't work on my home network. Some don't load text/images, some make certain functions crash and others won't work at all. Yet when I use someone else's Wi-Fi or my mobile data - they work perfectly.

I've done some research and amongst other things, I keep hearing that I need to change some 'IPv6' setting. But I'm not sure where to go from there.

Has anyone had this particular issue and can anyone help me?

Does it work on other wi-fi networks besides your home network?

To disable IPv6, you need to log into your router's settings using your desktop browser. Read your router's manual to learn how. Another thing to consider would be to change the DNS server: http://www.howtogeek.com/167533/the-ultimate-guide-to-changing-your-dns-server/

These apps work perfectly on other networks, yes! And regarding DNS, I've asked this question before in different forums, and DNS doesn't seem to be the issue. It's already using the Google DNS setting they recommend.

Also, I don't know what IPv6 is or if I should disable it! This is just one of the solutions I've read on similar issues.

IPv6 is the newer IP address protocol, which was developed when IPv4 was starting to run out of addresses. I don't know the technicalities, but it seems that sometimes, certain servers don't seem to work well over IPv6 (and oddly enough, this seems to happen with Google servers with some regularity). If you change your router to use IPv4 only, it might start to work.

There's no harm in disabling IPv6 temporarily. If it doesn't work, you can always go back into the router settings and re-enable it.
