Certification for Verizon?!?!

My phone now shows up as a PH-1 on My Verizon web page. No picture. No Wi-Fi provisioning yet. Baby steps.

The Global Cellular network setting is a must on verizon, but it still seems to drop Cellular connection with toggling airplane mode or rebooting the device the only way to fix it.

I also found out that if you have the "enhanced lte" option ticked that you need to activate VoLTE for the device on your Verizon account. You can do this on their website pretty easy and it's free, but without doing this if this feature is toggled on it seems to drop Cellular connection more frequently and I've also experienced the "server error" or "no server" or whatever when trying to place a call.

Seems I'm having more connection issues since the certification. Do we need to set the APN settings? If so what are they?

So It's been a month since the PH-1 was certified by Verizon. Last comments on this thread were that wifi calling doesn't work. Has that changed? Also, there were a lot of comments about weak reception. Is that still the general concensus?

^^^I am curious about this as well. I am seriously considering this phone depending on how good the reception is while on Verizon.

Anyone??
$499 has my attention but I have to have Verizon wifi calling working. I assumed carrier certification would include this but I haven't seen any posts saying it's working yet?

Maybe a dumb question as I don't know much about this stuff but would an issue like this even be fixable with a software update?

Depends on the root issue. If it's the physical antenna design then it's harder to fix. Amplification in software could be done to help correct it but this would use more battery power. If it's a software issue then it can be corrected once discovered, but that assumes it's a software issue in the first place.

What's interesting is that some report excellent signal while others say the opposite. Without detailed testing of actual signal strength values in -dBm using multiple devices and multiple SIMs to help reduce errors, anything found on forums will be purely circumstantial. That's not to say there isn't an issue, just that it's not clear on exactly where the issue lies and/or if it's a QA issue during assembly, affects earlier units, all units, etc.

Not even a software update, it would have to be on Verizon's end, they would have to allow the phone to access their WiFi calling service. The phone is ready and set, and works with both Sprint and T-Mobile WiFi calling.

I'm not on Verizon, so I can't tell you if WiFi calling is working or not, I remember people talking about it when it launched, and then nothing since.

I'm on at&t and can say that WiFi calling is not working there, but HD Voice and VoLTE is working just fine.

If you use it on VZW do you get updates through VZW?
No, updates are direct through Essential. The only carrier restrictions are phones purchased through Sprint. If you buy unlocked then updates are quick and direct.
