Question Challenges rooting a new OnePlus 12

To root the phone, I followed the instructions here https://droidwin.com/how-to-flash-firmware-on-any-oneplus-device/. However, to get this to work, I first had to enter the command ‘fastboot flashing unlock’, reboot the phone, and then keep going.

I figured the best first app to install would be Root Checker Basic, to make sure that everything thing is okay, but that failed to install. I noticed that I have the apk for Root Checker Basic on my computer, so I figured I would copy it over and go from there. However, both MyPhoneExplorer and X plore also refused to install.

When I went to the Play Store app and selected ‘Manage apps and devices' and it showed a number of apps that needed to be updated. I updated all of them, figuring that I could disable unwanted stuff later.

Once I did that, I was able to install Root Checker, but when I ran it, it indicated that root was not properly installed. My guess is that I had rooted the phone using OxygenOS-CPH2583_15.0.0.305(Partition Backup) from https://droidwin.com/download-oneplus-12-stock-firmware-rom-coloros-oxygenos/ and that the updates changed something. My guess, again, was that if I re-rooted to a newer version things would be okay.

Does this seem reasonable? The other question is this: On the OS page cited above, when I tried to download a newer Partition Backup version, I was told ‘The requested URL was not found on this server.’ Would an incremental work? If so, my guess is that I would have to start with (Incremental OTA 305 -> 406), but should I then update all the way to 15.0.0.702?

Please provide some guidance.

Have you asked this at XDA? Where did you get the instructions, have you asked there? While I don't like recommending other sites, in this case I think you'll be better served at someplace like XDA Developers where they are known for rooting, ROMs, and Android mods.
