Is it possible to change the Google Play Books Dictionary Language?

I really dig the fact that I can side-load books and that these will stay synced throughout all of my devices. What thrills me even more is that I can still read my books no matter where I am as long as the device has a browser. This is a killer feature for me.

HOWEVER, everything else about Play Books seems to be sooooo far behind the competition. But one step at a time. I like my phone in English. I download my apps in English. I read most of my books in English. But I also read books in Spanish when that's the book's original language.

In Kobo (which, if it had the sideloaded sync would be my absolute reader of choice) I can easily highlight a word and it will look up the meaning, but if I happen to be reading a book in another language, I can easily change the language of the dictionary on the fly. Even iBooks (which I use in my iPad...yes, I know, but the Note 10.1 is not yet released, so I'm still on iPad) will let you download different dictionaries and look up the meaning in any of them.

But in Play Books, it will always look up in English. No matter what. Now, I haven't tried changing my phone's language because, well, that wouldn't be an option in the long run. So, is there a way to change the dictionary for looking up words? If so, how?

Well well well... I downloaded Play Books for the iPad and lo and behold, the iPad version DOES allow you to select which language to use for definitions. How can the iPad version be better than the Android one??!! The Android version doesn't even give you the option to 'define' a word, it just does it automatically and does squat if it can't find the word... problem is, if it doesn't find it, it just doesn't do anything, it doesn't tell you why.

:(

Hi!
I see you asked this question a while ago. I have the same problem, have you figured out a way to change the dictionary language when you are reading a different language?

Appreciate your reply!

I got an email from Google saying that while this feature is in their workload, it's still not implemented in the Android version :(

I like how Apple provides definition in two languages I chose - English and Korean
