Ok on my HTC Hero i get tired of my lock screen and my home screen looking the same all the time is it a way to customize it like for the home screen change the sprint to my name and the silver arch with the time on it to a red or another color then the home page i get tired of seeing black all over i wanna change the bottom and the notification bar i get tired or seeing black can i change it to red or gold or something if i can could yall help me and tell me what i should do that all i wanna do to my phone is to just change it up a little and give it a new look

From the sounds of it you really want something custom.I think your going to need to be rooted for all that.There's apps out there to change up some of the things,but i don't think they will change all that you want.
If you have root- Hero CDMA Themes and Apps - xda-developers
If you don't have root jump over to the hero development area and there's info to get you all set up to root.
*To all feel free to chime in here.I know there's some apps that can help change themes and the looks of things but i don't use them.Please post about any apps that can helpout here.
I use a different picture for the two screens background. Sunrise over my lake. Just long press any picture and press, set as, wallpaper, lock screen wallpaper etc.

As Beezy said you will need root access to fully customize the UI of the phone. You can install a new launcher, either ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro, and have some UI changes (though very limited). For example, you can use ADW Launcher and have several themes installed that change the icons and launcher designs.
You will lose Sense if you choose to go with an alternative Launcher. Meaning no more Sense widgets. The good thing is that replacements can be found on the market like beatiful widgets or the widgets from the paid version of Launcher Pro.
I'd suggest looking through the screen shot thread (forgot the actual name of the thread) and see what people are using.

hmm thank you beezy now i'm look for how to root and unroot my phone but gotta be careful or i'll be out of a phone for a whole year if i messed this up
First thing put all that fear aside.There pretty much only one one to brick/kill your phone and that would be to flash a GSM radio.Which you shouldn't because no need to be in a gsm forum looking for a radio.
I'll start with how to unroot- To unroot your phone all you need to do is run the RUU.All the RUU is,is a program that runs on windows pc's and completely wipes everything off your phone and install the stock version of the rom.Very easy to do.
Now about rooting this all depends on what version number of android your on.If your on 1.5 then look at the sticky in the hacks section by gbhil.It has great detail of what is happening.If your oin 2.1 then there is a different thread you will have to use.
Post back here with a few details and we can get you all set up to root.

The software version is what you are looking for. Since you end with .6, you want to run the RUU that was posted in the Root thread linked earlier by Beezy and start from there. You want to roll the phone back to .5, which is where root access is granted.
