Changed my mind about my purchase

I purchased my phone (Note 10 plus) on Nov 26, 2019 at Bestbuy. I selected Verizon as the carrier and chose the $27.08/mo. purchase agreement. I then selected the 5GB/mo. plan on Verizon. I then ported my number over to Verizon from my old AT&T account. Big mistake.

Questions: Is it too late to return this phone to Bestbuy? Is there any way to cancel the 24 month agreement with Verizon?

I just think I made a huge mistake purchasing the phone.

The fingerprint reader and facial recognition features just don't work. Phone calls have a slight echo and there's some choppiness in the calls. Checking my visual voicemail there was a noticeable hum while playing back the message.

I really would just like to return the phone and cancel the 24 month agreement but I assume it's too late to do that?

Thanks....

You should be in the return period. But, why would you ask in a forum instead of contacting Bestbuy?

You will need to Port back to AT&T to be sure to not lose your phone number.

Thanks. So I should cantact Bestbuy and return the phone? Then contact Verizon and port my number to another carrier? Will I be able to cancel the 24 month agreement?

I'm new to this post paid stuff and especially new to purchasing high end phones, so please bear with me.

Thanks..

Will Verizon charge me an early termination fee for porting my number to another carrier? Any idea what that might be?

So, my steps to return my phone.

1. Take it back to Bestbuy. Pay a restocking fee.

2. Either I cancel, or Bestbuy cancels my service agreement with Verizon? But before cancelling, port my number to another carrier.

3. Any ETF?

4. Anything else I need to do?

Thanks.....

There is no ETF, yet. You have 14 days to decide against the phone and the service.

BB should be able to Port you to a different service but you'll need a compatible phone for the new carrier.

You will owe for the service used on VZW, you will owe a restocking fee (I don't know how that works with BB because I've never bought phone from them).

And you need to act with reasonable haste before your time runs out. Make SURE that you verify this with Bestbuy before taking any action.

Remember that if you close service with Verizon at BB before porting out the number you will lose that number and cannot get it back. BB can sign you up with AT&T, and Sprint but not T-Mobile (at least not around here).

"1. Take it back to Bestbuy. Pay a restocking fee."

I returned a phone a few weeks ago - restocking fee was $45.00. Was told they had just raised it since so many people were returning phones. Anxious to see how much they charge you...

Did you apply all pending updates?

And

If you have dry hands or fingertips, considering using good hand lotion on your fingertips (for a day or two) and then redoing your fingerprints. It's worked wonders for me (that too, in the dead of winter.)

Yes, I did apply all updates. I also tried various ways to use the finger print reader but none worked. Thanks for the suggestion.

OK. Just got back from Bestbuy and I think I made out well.

Wasn't charged a restocking fee. Maybe because I explained about the fingerprint reader not working or maybe because it was that they were extremely busy. Either way, I'm happy about that. They also took back the otterbox case for the phone. Wasn't too sure if they would do that.

So, they returned the tax that I paid and the phone case. Terrific..

They also set me up with a new carrier and ported my number to them. They claim my new carrier will cancel the Verizon account once the port completes. Told me to keep an eye on my bank statement next month just in case.

Again, thanks guys for your contributions to my error in judgement.

What phone and carrier did you get?

You are quite right about the dry digits. The ultra sonic reader doesn't like 'em as I discovered just yesterday when my password manager locked me out for failed fingers. Samsung needs to use a different tech, this ain't cutting it.
