Changes to phone answering behavior after update - any settings or apps to change?

After one of the last updates, answering the phone changed from swiping sideways to upwards, but much more importantly for me, when the phone is on any active screen, instead of the call taking over the full screen so it's easy to answer, a small "answer" or "dismiss" box appears at the top of the phone. I've now missed calls because of this.

Is there anywhere this can be changed back to the previous behavior, and if not, are there any apps that allow customization of the answer/dismiss screens? I've found some apps that allow the main answer screen to be changed, but they don't change the behavior mentioned above when you are already using the phone.

That was a dialer update, came through at least a month ago, maybe longer.

If that's the case the OP should be able to just uninstall the updates.

Only downside is that rolls all the way back to the original version; no way to just undo the last update, and no way to accept intermediate updates except for the last one.

That only works if the last system image loaded on the phone has the older version of the phone app... if they updated the base app with the image, you would have to sideload an older version of the dialer app (which I have never tried, personally)
