How can I change default settings in my calendar function for new entries? Specifically, I'd like to set the default reminders to NOT send emails, and the default time for a reminder to 30 minutes. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! Are you using the Samsung Calendar app, or Google Calendar? In Google Calendar, tap Menu>Settings>General Settings>Default Reminder Time.

To turn off the email reminders, I think you may have to go to Google Calendar on the web, select the specific Calendar Settings, and then Edit Notifications.

Thanks, this is embarrassing, but I'm not sure which. How can I tell? I use the default icon that came on the phone, so I assume (that's dangerous) it's Samsung, but my entries do appear on my Google calendar.

I have changed the settings in Google calendar, per your instructions, but I'm not sure it's had any effect. Is there a way to change it on the Samsung calendar?

You're probably using the Samsung Calendar app, but its settings should be similar to Google Calendar.

And therein lies the problem. I cannot find those kinds of preferences in the Samsung calendar.

Thanks,

I don't have a Samsung device in front of me right now, so I can't give you an exact answer. I don't currently have access to my wife's Tab Pro. You could always install Google Calendar, if you're not completely attached to the Samsung calendar app.

For the Samsung calendar, tap on the menu (3 dots on the upper right corner)/settings/Select Alert Type/Off
I hope that's it. I saw nothing in the settings about email. I get the exact same options (for alerts) if I go thru settings/sound/calendar/select alert type

If you decide to try Google Calendar (from the play store)...
OK, I think I can answer this one. I've been working with Google Calendar for the last week, setting it up so that the 12 or so people that schedule jobs with my husband can see what dates are free or busy and send job details for me to post.
Log into your gmail acct ONLINE.
Click on the apps icon (a square of squares in the upper right portion of the screen.\
Choose Calendar
On the left side of the screen you'll see a link to your calendar(s)
Click on the down arrow on the right of the calander name and choose "Edit Notifications"
You have a list of things to be notified about. You can check or uncheck them.
The only way I see to set up 30 minute notifications (with both calendars) is via your mobile device.

Hope you were able to get something out of all that :)

Thanks! It appears I've got all my settings in order between you and B. Diddy above. I really appreciate all your help.
