Question Email and calendar apps not sync'ing

Hello. I have been struggling with a sync issue for past couple of weeks and it is causing me a headache as my work calendars are constantly out of sync.

Gmail won't give notifications for new emails because it won't sync with account. Can only see new emails by going on the app and pulling down to refresh.

Google Calendar works OK but won't sync with any other calendar app, and I use a separate app for work scheduling. Manual refresh on Google Calendar and separate calendar app does not force a sync and they remain out of sync for days.

I have tried all the generic easy fixes eg. turn "automatically sync app data" on/off, removing and re-adding google accounts, manual "sync now" refresh, gmail settings -> "sync Gmail" is on (30 days), update android system to latest, update play store and all apps to latest, restart device many times, clearing gmail / calendar cache

I found the following thread:
https://support.google.com/mail/thread/59505255/gmail-android-app-does-not-get-new-emails-unless-i-manually-refresh-the-page?hl=en

This solution WORKS. When I turn off auto select time zone and manually change time zone to any other time zone, and restart device, it starts syncing everything. Calendars sync and gmail emails come through as notifications. BUT, when I change it back to my own time zone or set automatic time zone, and restart the phone, the no sync problem comes straight back again. The google accounts / apps don't sync! Is there any known solution?

Device:
Oneplus 10 Pro 5G

OS:
OxygenOS 14.0 (Android 14)
NE2213_14.0.0.900(EX01)

It sounds like something might be killing the Gmail app in the background, thus preventing it from properly syncing in the background. Do you have any 3rd party "phone cleaner" or "RAM booster" apps installed? If so get rid of them -- they do nothing except cause more problems like this. Some manufacturers can also be fairly aggressive with killing apps in a misguided attempt to conserve battery -- you can check the system settings or any preinstalled OnePlus app that might have anything to do with RAM, memory, or battery management to see if it's restricting Gmail in some way.

Your posting is apparently all focused on your phone as the problem. Syncing as a service is based on a software aspect, and the extensive listing of things you've done to try to address your problem needed to be done just to eliminate them as possibilities.
But syncing also requires a stable online connection between your phone and various online servers.
So is this happening only with WiFi, or only mobile data (cellular), or both?
If only with WiFI, is this just your home WiFi network or is this syncing issue happening when connected to different WiFi networks too? (i.e a neighbor's home, at work, etc.) If just at home, have your tried to reboot your router? If it's a problem elsewhere too, this is baffling but please clarify.

Hello. I have not installed or ever used any phone cleaner / ram booster / battery booster apps except accubattery (which is not currently installed) that would be causing gmail to be killed in the background. Also as this affects all services to do with google accounts (eg calendars) as well, I think it is more likely a system issue than a gmail issue?

Hello. I experience this issue all the time and it does not resolve itself across different wifi networks or mobile data network connections or when transferring between them. I would be aware if it did as I would receive incoming email notifications for gmail when it did resolve itself.

I do think it's fundamentally a syncing service issue and potentially just with the oneplus phone. So I have searched more specifically for this issue relating to oneplus and have now found many threads of users experiencing the same issues.

Per some users success stories I will now be trying the following and will report back:
- Free up storage so there is at least 10% remaining
- Leave phone shut down for a significant amount of time before powering on (to clear some kind of oneplus optimisation bug?)
- Set Google DNS hostname (8.8.8.8)

Do you only have Gmail from one Google account on the phone, or are there multiple Gmail accounts? If so, is it only the secondary accounts that aren't syncing correctly, or does even the primary account have issues?
