Changing Default message tone

Hi Everyone,

Just today, I tried to change the default message tone on my Galaxy S7. It acknowledged the tone when I made a selection, and shows my selected tone on the list, but when I get a new e mail, it's still on the tone I had previously. I sent myself messages several times, even restarted my phone, but still get the old tone, rather than the new one, even though the new one is displayed on the menu. Please advise if you can. Thanks.

Try a hard reset: hold home and power button (I am on ATT, so it might differ on different carriers).

Welcome to Android Central! Are you using another preinstalled tone, or a custom tone?

Have you also tried opening the Email app, tapping Menu>Settings, selecting the email account, and looking at the notification options there?

what email app is it?
most likely the app has its own setting for the notification tone
