So, I've had my Moto x for about 3 days now and I love the voiceless control feature. Mostly, I use it to launch navigation when I get into my car, and I love how I can navigate without fumbling with the phone while I drive and avoid dangerous situations. The problem is that I prefer to use Waze over google maps, and I haven't figured out how to get the phone to default to using Waze instead of google maps when i tell it to navigate somewhere. You can't even tell the phone to launch waze as an app because everytime I say "waze" the phone hears "ways" and does nothing. Has anyone found out how to change the default navigation app for google now ?

say Navigate to "Some place" and when the navigation card show up click X and click the google maps icon on left and u have the options

not sure this will work but go into menu>settings>apps> and clear the defaults for google maps and google navigation. The next time you start a navigation it should ask you if you want to use google navigation or some other navigation app you have loaded on your phone.

Yea, it doesn't work. I've reset app defaults, and sometimes when you navigate straight out of the google now cards, you can default it to waze. But if you just tell the phone to navigate it still launches the google maps navigator. As far as I can tell there isn't a way to make it default to anything other than the google maps navigator.

I need help with this as well.... I bumped the wrong button on the absurdly STUPID new default app setting window that Google implemented a few releases back and now my navigation - when using Google Now - is set to Chrome....

So, every time I say "Navigate to (insert destination)" it does a web search! I have cleared defaults in all the related apps - and, STILL can't find a way to clear Google Now's default setting!

Note: running Android 4.4 on my Nexus 5 - Google Now is NOT listed in my apps under Settings/Apps.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have not figured it out either. I prefer Scout.

This has frustrated me so much that I've decided to use Utter for things like opening apps and most other Google now needs. It reacts much much better and has so many options. It actually understands the difference between ways and waze. If it doesn't, you can set it up to open waze by saying anything from ways to Abracadabra

By the way, I just want to update this thread: I believe that since the google now update, telling my phone to "navigate to ____" Now launches waze with the address already filled in, or whatever it is im searching for automatically searched for. You still have to confirm in waze, but you CAN now launch waze using google now. You still can't say "launch waze" -- it will still recognize "launch ways" and do a simple search, but if you tell it to navigate, it will launch waze if you have it set as a default. I'm not sure how this happened, only that I've noticed it since the google now update. I think if you do a search first and click on the navigation CARD in google now, it gives you the option to chose the app and this will set your navigation default, which changes what app launches when you tell it to navigate. I'm pretty sure it wasn't like this before. Anyways, with this change and now with the new changes to voiceless texting, I'm supper happy.

Just checked Google Now and when tapping the navigate and it did just that.

If you have a default application being launched and want to change it, go to Settings>Apps.
Find the App that is being launched (so go to google maps), then scroll down past clear data, past clear cache, then you will see "clear defaults" under the "launched by default" section.
Click "Clear defaults" and then the next time you have google now navigate, it should once again prompt you to choose a navigation application.

This works for any app that you have set as other defaults.

I heard Google owns Waze. Would be cool to easily switch between apps... Or at least set default without getting headache.

I heard Google owns Waze.

You heard correctly. From Wikipedia-
Waze (pronounced as ways) is a GPS-based geographical navigation application program for smartphones with GPS support and display screens which provides turn-by-turn information and user-submitted travel times and route details, downloading location-dependent information over the mobile telephone network. It was developed by the Israeli start-up Waze Mobile, which was acquired by Google in 2013.

I discovered if I say Drive to ....
Instead of navigate to, I get a long list of apps including Waze.

Google now appears to associate Waze with driving rather than navigation.

"Navigate to" provides only three options on Google Now - Built in Android, Built in AT&T and Google Maps.

"Drive to" provides all Browsers, the above three, and Waze. So, I now set the default of "Drive to" to Waze and Navigate is left alone.

Neither term recognizes Garmin Viago.

The question remains, I think, is there a way to edit (or even add to) the default list of applications that Google Now presents for it's different commands? When you have selected one as an "always' default, is there a way to unselect it to get the default list again?

I believe the apps that are presented as choices when no default app had been selected is based on the declared capabilities of each app, or maybe the intents they are listening to.

After selecting a default app for a given action, you can get the lust back again by clearing defaults for the app that is currently the default. This is done in the application manager, and clears all default actions for that app.

This doesn't work for my Note4. I have cleared all defaults and checked maps under the app manager and it still won't prompt for the app. Unlike urls which prompt for either Internet or chRome no matter how many times I set the default

Bit of a late answer on this, but I stumbled on this issue too and was searching for a solution. Still haven't found one where you can change it easily.
However there is a possibly to reset it, but it will mean everything of google now will be reset.

Search for Google-app in your application manager. Go to Manage Space and clear the Launcher data.
This will effectively clear all settings related to Google now on your device and give you the opportunity to set defaults again (maps, alarms.., etc).

Didn't work for me, unfortunately. Saying either "drive to..." or "navigate to..." defaults to Maps, even after clearing all the Map and Google Now settings in the app menu.

I actually prefer Google Maps 95% of the time. The 5% is a big problem though - there is no way to always avoid tolls in Google Maps, and sometimes it directs me to use them even though I NEVER want to. Usually I don't realize until I'm nearly getting on the toll road, and then I need to reroute to avoid it. Waze includes the ability to default to 'avoid tolls'. Such a simple change that Google Maps refuses to incorporate.

Yes, pjniez is quite right and his answer gets the prize!
To Refresh:
Yes, you can disable apps on the One X - even some of the AT&T ones. I have a One X and was able to disable the AT&T Navigator app. Now I don't get promoted to choose which app to use for navigation and out goes right to Google Navigation.

To disable an app:
1) Go to Settings, Apps, and click on the All tab on the far right
2) Then scroll down until you find the AT&T Navigator app and click on it
2.5) If you've updated the app, you will see an Uninstall button. Click the Uninstall button to uninstall the updates (Thanks natrixgli! )
3) Then click on the Disable button

That's it!

Google Navigation is awesome, but Waze has options such as real time traffic information, accidents, police radar traps, and a lot more. So having Waze as an option is something I really missed until now. I made the mistake of clearing data and of course, that did not work. I did not think to scroll down to find "Clear Defaults". That did the trick! Thank you pjniez! :)

I have just found a way of opening the waze navigation App just say "navigate to bristol using the W.A.Z.E app" SPELL OUT waze with each letter
