Changing " OK Google now"

I just had to get a replacement device since mine stopped responding to my voice at all and when on calls I faded in and out. With the new device it is not letting me train the launch phrase at it, just says Im sorry I didnt catch that and to try again.. I tried multiple rooms and locations but it doesnt even give me a chance to speak. After an hour on the phone with Verizon they called motorola and were told its a known issue and they are working on a software update.. is there any work around in the meantime? I used the touchless controls daily in the car.

thanks!

Is there an update to Touchless Controls in the Play Store? If not, try installing this, if it's not already installed: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...s?id=com.motorola.audiomonitor&token=vdNDcNZU

All I did was apply the update and "Ok Google now" began working like a champ. Looks like their update fixed the issue on a Droid Maxx.

Yes. Same experience for me. If your voice training doesn't work, that means you have to update the app from the Google Play store. Then it voice training will work.

Am I missing something?

Everytime I look in Google play, the Touchless app says that it's the initial release. Is there a new one?

As I recall, the app in Google Play was an update to what shipped with the Moto X series. Touchless was not a Play Store app, but, rather than wait for an OTA update, they pushed the update through the Play Store instead.

So, the Play Store app *is* the new one.

And if it says "installed" do I still need to update?

If it says Installed in the Play Store app, then up already have the update. You can go into settings->apps. Under downloaded, if you see "Touchless Control", then you have the Play Store update (it wouldn't be under "downloaded" if it was the stock version.) If you tap it and it says version 3.06.1.0 and has an "uninstall updates" button - then you definitely have it.

I have read that it is impossible to train the touchless control with any phrase other than Ok Google Now.

I believe I saw this on something that was put out by Motorola, or some sort of official statement.

In essence whenever you get it to be trained with another phrase, you're tricking it to work with something else.

I personally tried to get it to work with other very different phrases to no avail. Kept getting an error message stating that it couldn't recognize the phrase despite being in a perfectly quiet setting.

On a separate note, I was encountering an issue with the Ok Google Now phrase. Sometimes, when sending a text, the "now" would be included in the message, or sometimes it wouldn't get the intended recipient correct because the "now" threw it off.

When I retrained it to work with just OK Google, in essence tricking it, it started working perfectly, and the training was easy because the OK Google is so similar to OK Google Now.

I'm thrilled with the results; the only draw back being, it's sometimes too easy to get it to initiate, and I've had other people capable of getting it to start who sound nothing like me, whereas before, with the OK Google Now, my twin brother, who sounds almost exactly like me, was unable to get it to go.

The new update added the ability to use "OK Google" as the trigger phrase. So you're not tricking it anymore.

I did change it before the update and didn't have any issues.

That's good to know though...

I've been using OK Google from the get-go. Anyone play with it to see if it can be anything else yet? Like, Hey Phone!

There are plenty out there that people have gotten to work. My favorite so far has been "OK Jarvis" (from ironman)

I have issues where the phone doesn't always wake up when I say OK Google now, I have to go in and retrain the voice..
I did learn.. That you can train it with other phrases and it still works. I'm currently using. " OK Motorola" until I think of something cute lol!

If I could just say "yo bro" and the touchless controls started I would probably use it but I feel like a tool saying OK Google now

Probably would sound equally toolish saying yo bro to my phone now that I think about it

It's true.

They force you to say OK Google now which makes you think twice about saying it.

It really should allow you to do what you want. it's the right thing to do.

My wife mocks the hell outta me every time I say that. She has an iphone though.

seriously - over a year, and no one has suggested "Dave..." or should I say "Hello, HAL. Do you read me, HAL?"

Our phones still don't support totally custom names/phrases, so we're left with either "ok Google Now" or phrases that sound similar enough to trick the training.
