Currently I have Google Photos as my default app for pictures. I would like to change back to the stock Gallery App but I absolutely can NOT find that in the list of apps to clear the default. Can someone please direct me where to go to do this? It's making me crazy now.

I believe it's a part of Google plus. If you go into the google folder in the app drawer and press and hold the "photos" app then you will get the options at the top to create folder, app info, disable app - you can try disabling the app or if you go into "app info" it brings up Google plus and gives you the option of force stop, uninstall updates and clear defaults etc {this is what you see if you open up Google plus under settings in the application manager also}.

Not sure if this will do what you're asking, but hopefully it's at least somewhat helpful.

Not at all. I'm not trying to stop or uninstall anything. I simply want to chage my default apps for photos from Google Photos to Gallery

Hopefully the more experienced users on here will have the correct answer for you then. I assumed since google photos is a part of Google plus the clearing the defaults in the google plus app would work.

Good luck, hope you get the right answer soon.

I didn't even find that. I just went and cleared all the defaults and started over. Not really that much work involved in that but I sure would be interested in knowing.

I had a related problem with Picasa and Gallery yesterday straight after KitKat, and @Golfdriver97 and @B. Diddy were thinking Google Photos was replacing Gallery**. However I still have Gallery only and now its fine.
What we did after a temporary Google sync error was untick Picasa in Google accounts sync by touching your email in Google Sync. It might bring back Gallery if you untick Photos or what you are using now.
Better though to go to my thread, read and reply to b. diddy's last posts and hopefully he or Golfdriver97 will respond and you can bring them here.
"Picasa or mi casa ? "
Dunno, might work.

**Photos replacing Picasa rather**

Nobody knows how much I don't know. Via my Note 3 on AC.

Going to the photos app in settings, there should be a clear defaults button toward the bottom. That should reset everything, but the way the OP did it is fine too. If there are not many defaults set, it doesn't really set you back that much.

Go into settings, application manager and hit the menu button,
, hit reset application preferences

Or this.
If you absolutely, categorically, must, nay, insist on using the easiest way. LOL.
Let us know if that works.

*See you may have tried that in post #5 though.

There is NO photos app in settings, hence my problem. I have a Google Photos app and yet it does not appear in the list of apps. Dumb. I just reset all the defaults. Better than making myself crazy. And as stated previously, that did work. And for those that might be curious... I see no real difference between these two apps except that the Gallery app allows you to write on the back of pictures along with a few other options that the Photos app will not so I might as well make that my default app (which I have done)

I can't help at all but screenshots of what you have does help others figure it. You don't have either under 'All' apps or 'Disabled' apps? (US phones call Disabled something else.) You're more knowledgeable than I am and I have a different version.
Here's where I have gallery, just because I'm an exhibitionist.

This will fix the issue. I have done it and it works every time. Don't understand why it won't work for you.

Sarks was right in that it's part of Google +. I had Google + completely disabled (in the Application Manager we have a Disabled apps list - US versions name it different).
Just to report I gave Google + another try today so reinstated it. It collected thumbnails of my photos, but I didn't agree to a full backup. So when I went to post photos or screenshots I had the new option of chosing from Photos or Gallery.
I disabled Google + now again and the Photo option is gone.
If you can afford to completely clear cache, data, force stop and disable Google + you may find Photos gone. However it sounds in your case as if Gallery is not there, or may not reappear.
You sound like you had given up anyway. It is very useful though as you say to write on the front or back of photos.

On S5 go to notifications drop down to get to settings.(Gear Icon). Click gear icon then scroll all the way down to get to the applications sections and click (Default Applications). Then scroll down to Google Plus and click clear on Google Plus. Now when you click on a picture it will ask you for the gallery or photos now. Hopes this helps.

Ok, this is a more specific way to address this issue to clear any default app settings:
1. Start Task Manager (hold down the home button until the screen comes up for you to swipe closed the apps you have open).
2. On the bottom left corner of the screen is a button that looks like a pie chart. Press this button.
3. On the screen that comes up now, there are 4 tabs at the top. The far right tab is the Default Manager. Press this tab and it will list all default apps on your device (Samsung Galaxy S4). From here you can manage each default app individually.
I know this post is way late but hopefully it can help someone down the road.

Try this:
***Settings>Applications>Application Manager>ALL>[touch top right menu w/3 dots]>Reset app preferences.***
This allowed me to select new defaults again. I had selected a wrong default and couldn't attach anything from my Gallery (i.e. screenshots, downloads, etc) except pictures to a text message. Every time I'd try to attach something, other than a picture, it would say "Unable to attach file". Once I did the above commands, BINGO, I was able to get to my gallery again!!! :-)
