Charging cable falls out of charger port

My Captivate is about 9 months old. I have 3 charging cables and a car charger. Only the car charger stays snuggly in the charger port. With my other 3 chargers, the slightest wiggle of the phone breaks the charging connection.

On one of my chargers, I removed the sleeve off the end of the cable so the connector could go deeper into the phone. My guess is that the charger port has somehow slightly settled into the phone, making it hard to get a good connection.

I called our friends at AT&T. They inform me this is physical damage and not covered by the warranty. I counter that it is a product defect and should be covered without me using my phone insurance. So, they want me to take the phone to an AT&T store. If the store reports back that the charger port looks recessed the same as one on a new phone, then they will cover it under warranty.

To me that BS!

Anyone else ran into this?

My Captivate has the same issue, but I've managed to find the right cables that fit snug (oddly enough, one of them is an HTC cable...go figure).

That's easy, backup your ROM w/ ROM Manager, copy the clockworkmod folder to your external SDCard. Then back up all your apps with Tibu to your external SDCard. Copy everything you care about to same (photos, maybe music) then remove external SDCard, and put in a safe place.

Flash one-click JF6 from XDA, and update to AT&T Froyo with Mini-Kies. No root now remains, and you can walk in with a perfectly "new" phone :)

"Please miss, does this USB port look okay to you?"

If you're doubly lucky, she'll be cute, single, and friendly.

I've used a exacto knife to trim some of the plastic from my charger connector - It has allowed better connections.

It is a design flaw by Samsung - nothing can be done now other than look for cables that fit better

LOL ... sounds fun but my wife may not feel the same! Sound advice but really don't feel like putting two hours into going back to stock then having to re-apply Serendipity. Guess if I'm that lazy ...

I need to just do this!

Make sure the slider door that covers the port is all the way open... many cables are a tad too wide to have the port closed even a millimeter. This was my problem for MONTHS before I realized it. I don't know how many Odin flashes got corrupted because of it :).

Yes, I'm making sure the door clicks into place. When I flashed my last ROM, that's when I really noticed the issue! I ended up removing the plastic from charge connector in a fit of WTH'ness.

EXACTLY ... that was my point to the AT&T CS. But she insisted since I had "pushed" the port down it was "physical damage."

I try really really hard to never say this ... but damn Verizon would have had me a phone over-nighted yesterday.

I have a (Wal-Mart) car charger that that I need to trim up b/c it slips out like crazy. The stock wall/pc charger seems ok, but the placement for charging is just god awful especially if you have to take a call while it's charging.

I have the same problem with the charger falling out of the port on the Moto X and is a matter of fact I was at Verizon just yesterday picking up a tablet and there was a lady with a Moto X with the same exact problem!!! My mobile charger also same problem. I bought mine directly from Motorola, and a Support is from some other third world country, I talked to them once about the Nexus 6 and I must have had to repeat my name 5 times so I'm not even going to deal with them... they sent me a nexus 6 there was not compatible with Verizon and tried to give me a new ein number and blame Verizon for the problem took 3 months to get my money credited back to my account

I know im 5 yeas too late lmao; but its better late than never. And i know theres many people who have this same problem who will look it up just as i did. Anyway, on your standard samsung or any samsung-like charger, on the underside of the charger part that goes into your phone there are two prongs that stick out that hold your charger in your phone. In my case and in many others, the prongs can wear out and bend. I used a piece of a lighter that i took apart the previous night to bend them back out. Its harder to explain than it is to demonstrate, but i hope this will help.
