Charging Huawei Honor 8 with a 5v charger instead of included 9v quick charger

Hi
Is it possible, safe and wont harm the phone if you use a 5v charger with the Honor 8 instead of the 9v quick charger included with the phone when sold new? - (I know the quick charger can also charge at 5v but when used with the Honor 8 it automatically charges at 9v)

Thanks for the reply- do you have any idea if you need a specific type of USB c cable for fast charging to work?
(NB I thought maybe the fast charger had both 5v and 9v output so you could use on different devices either ones that would need 5v or others that can take 9v, but I have since read that apparently the Honor 8 moves between using the 5v and 9v output, not 100% sure thats true but would make sense)

I am unsure, but I thought that the Honor 8 can only use the charger that came with it out of the box in order to be able to use quick charging.
