charging problem

In the beginning, when charger was plugged in, screen showed "charging" with the percentage. Now it doesn't show anything. Even there is a cross sign on the battery icon at the top (I am using jellybean) . BUT battery still charges but at snail's pace. Even in settings, the battery option shows that it is discharging while the charger is plugged in. Kindly help me in this regard I shall be highly thankful to u.
