Chat features in Android messages not working

I cannot get Android messages to activate the chat features. Just switched carriers but it's working fine on my kid's 3a, will not work/activate on mine. Any ideas?

Yep, tried all that for the last three days and nothing worked. I ended up just giving up the last couple days and turning it off completely in settings.

Wouldn't you know I turn it on after posting this and it all connected and seems to be working now.

Yeah it seems likely. Was the only thing not working and was bugging the heck out of me.
