November 29th was one month before I would pick up the vehicle rental in southern Chile. Apparently -- and it's not listed anywhere on the rental website -- it is a lot cheaper if you reserve more than a month in advance. The price used to be $1,750.

It's now $3,600.

Now... nothing.

If the rental cost is above $2,000 (which, at $3,600, it certainly is), my existing partial sponsorship doesn't apply. I pay full price. That pushes the cost of the trip to a depressing $7,500 -- almost double what it was going to cost me a week ago. There is no trip anymore, unless someone comes to me in the next three days offering to cover the costs.

Who knows, maybe I'll put together a Kickstarter campaign and turn this trip into a proper "expedition" for next fall or something.
