Re: [Chatter] I <3 JB

Don't focus on weight/numbers, focus on how you feel and how you look. If you are starting to see positive changes when you look in the mirror, that is your reward, not what some stupid scale says.

This. Weight is tricky to measure. It'll vary throughout the day and and be different depending on the day of the week (assuming your eating/drinking habits vary throughout the week). The biggest change in weight is going to be from water retention. A pound of fat is roughly 3500 calories, so to lose a pound/week you'd have to consume 3500 calories/week less than you burn. I think muscle is 2500 calories per pound, so gaining a pound of muscle in a week would require 2500 calories/week more intake than what you burn (plus you'd have to lift enough to ensure your body builds muscle rather than fat).

That's why I'm always skeptical of claims that people make about losing 10 lbs in a week. That's a roughly 5000 calories/day deficiency which isn't even close to healthy (unless you're a 500 pounder and regularly consume 10k calories/day).

Who's watching the iPhone launch event? :)

I will be. Even though I have no interested in the next iPhone (iPhone 5?), I still enjoy reading tech stuffs.

I hear ya. I'm following a mash of a few routines I've found/received and most of it's built around getting a muscular core lol. I'm an endomorph but I seem to be able to build muscle pretty quickly. So far, no real definition but it's definitely bulking up. My arms/chest/back/traps 2 months ago are not even recognizable when viewed currently, which is awesome lol

Yup same.. tech is interesting no matter Plus can't wait to see what they invented from android and how the 4 inch screen is the "sweet spot" and how 4G is the "new era" and a bunch of bogus stats that make it sound like iphones are actually outselling android :)

Lol. Looking forward to this as well.

And I'm sure they held off on 4G so it could be done "right". I'm fully expecting a comment about other manufacturers doing it at the sacrifice of battery life or some garbage like that.

Starts at 10 am PT. I'm a tech enthusiast so will watch a little while I'm eating lunch. Say what you will about Apple, but they know how to put on a show. :)

Big D. Don't forget that liquor has a lot of weight gaining properties. Calories. Keep that in mind. I'm not stating that you drink a lot...I'm sure you already know that :D

Re: [Chatter] I <3 JB

Just started doing cardio more routinely. Mostly lifting.

And I definitely seeing changes, which is very rewarding.

I generally alternate. Climbing, cardio, climbing, cardio. I finally got around to starting trail running. Got myself a sick pair of shoes, and, it's so much fun. It's like, Jogging: The Videogame.

That's why you should weigh yourself when you get up the morning. Or, just not really care about it, lol. But, the rest of your logic is sound. I don't calorie count though. I exercise a crapload, and, I eat when my body tells me I'm hungry. Like every night after dinner it whispers in my ear, "feed me ice cream nom nom nom." :p But, seriously, I found that if you just pay attention to your body's signals, you can do pretty well.

Well, it's not as unlikely as you'd think. To lose 10 pounds, on a 2k calorie diet, you'd need to burn 21,000 calories in a week. At my weight, I can burn about 1000 calories per hour running 7 - 8 mph. If I could manage to keep that up for three hours a day (even if it had to be in two 1.5 hour sessions) I could lose 10 pounds in a week. Although, that is assuming that that other 2k calories is burned up in normal day to day activity. I'm not sure if the 2k diet means you are going to burn it all during a normal day without exercise. Either way, it's likely you could pull it off, but, who the hell wants to run 7 - 8 mph for three hours a day. Climbing for three hours, hell yea, running, count me out.

If you want to work your core, go climbing. :p I know I preach climbing all the time, but, it's the most fun I've ever had working out. And, you have to think while you are doing it, it's like physical problem solving, barely feels like exercise. You get great balance and you get really in tune with how to use your body, and, how it moves.

Also, yoga is good for core. I like it, but, haven't found time to work it in to my routine regularly yet. Good in general, but, a good match for climbing. Lol.

In the interest of continuing this sidetrack, I'll elaborate. While it may be possible, you first need to have a lot of fat to spare. And drastically under/overconsuming calories is never a good idea. Weight loss/gain is best done at a steady pace. I would argue it would be very difficult to exert that much energy on only a 2k calorie diet. Also, underconsuming like this puts your body in a highly catabolic state, and there will be muscle loss as well which is counterproductive for long-term weight loss.

I'd like to climb, but for a while I got a bit too big for it to be really possible. I was not flexible enough and wouldn't posses the finger strength for holds. Still something I'd really like to get in to (in all my free time lol).
