Looks really good!!!

I just love creating avatars and icons! :-)

Thanks! It's one of the things I do in my spare time.

I took an old screenshot from a Nexus-themed lock screen I had and I put a lowercase i in the middle of the X to show that I'm on both sides.

Well, well, what have we here. Things have changed a hell of a lot for me in the past couple years and thankfully it’s all been good. Living on my own, working as a machinist and kinda loving life lately! Have an audio setup that I just love to bits(don’t mind the purple tub, it helps improve the sound quality)things aren’t perfect but I can’t believe how far I’ve come. Glad to see the thread is still hanging on too.

Ooh, that looks great. I'm sure it sounds even better! :)

It really really does! I’m planning to buy a projector come tax time and flip the setup around a bit but yeah man, it’s amazing! The speakers are Cambridge audio Aeromax 2’s and they make me grateful every time I sit down to listen to them that I have them. Music has always been therapy for me and this setup makes for some great medicine.

That's awesome! I'm also a big fan of music. What kind of projector are you looking at?

BTW, I'm volunteering at a local dog shelter, walking dogs and playing with dogs who are awaiting adoption. I love it, and it makes me feel great whenever I spend time with them. I can't have a dog due to landlord rules, so this is the next best thing for me and for them.

I’m looking at the BenQ HT3550, it looks to be the best bang for the buck and has the features I desire most: excellent color accuracy, great black levels and 4K res with hdr support. It’s a chunk of change for sure, but at the same time other than a bulb replacement every few years it should last a long long time.

And that’s awesome! I want to get a dog, but my apartment is too small and I’m not home enough, would not be fair to the dog at all. So for the moment, it waits. I’m glad you found a way to be around dogs still and hey it’s a good thing for the dogs too, so win, win

Ooh! That sounds like a great projector. Good luck with acquiring it.

That's true about a dog. It'll be cool once you'll be able to have one. I'll have one eventually too.

I use to work as a machinist, work in both a production shop and a job shop. In both North Carolina, and Michigan. How are you liking it ? What type of parts are made in the shop you work at ? There are so many different types of machine shops :)

We make parts for Aerospace, I am currently working primarily as a grind machinist. It’s challenging work sometimes which is fine by me. For the most part I like it, but the machine I’m running has been having nothing but problems and it’s making work really frustrating because I come in and can’t do much, I can stay busy on little stuff if the machine is totally down but usually it’s just kind of limping along and that makes for some slow frustrating nights.

Cool, yeah I hear ya on the parts made where you work.
OD , ID, surface grinding, parts was one of the few things I did not do. I did do gear grinding of gear teeth, etc. .
Along with various other machines, as well as mic calibrations ,and QC, ISO type stuff

Also issues with a machine like you mention can be frustrating, been there before to ,as about any machinist goes tho at some point in time. Hopefully it will get better, try not to stress to much and do the best you can .

I am at a big machine shop right now. I help qualify components for medical devices and some of them are made by machine shop companies.

This supplier has facilities in FL, NC and AL.

I also have suppliers in MN, MI and overseas.

I'll bet that makes parts super expensive.

The answer is it depends. Usually on design, complexity, materials and inspection/quality requirements. Of course nothing is as cheap as stuff at Home Depot and rightfully so.
My company used to buy certified hardware for Nuke plants. Same screw as non certified but because it was certified it cost at least 10 times as much

I’m trying not to, thankfully management usually sees the issue for what it actually is instead of blaming us. The only that really gets to me is that we’re keeping this old machine around. It’s costing us so much money in downtime and scrap that it would be cheaper to just replace the entire machine and yet...

While I was cleaning out my garage, I found my collection of old PopSci magazines from 2011-2012 and I found some interesting ads:
