Cheap USB C Cables may cause V20 bootloop...

I'm using the cable that came with it. May I know what cable are you using for your v20?

Since USB-C is still relatively new with no set standard its always best to use the manufactures. Or a trusted brand like Anker or Aukey. Basically stay away from the drugstore cables. I bought one and it burned up in a couple days

Benson Lung, or whoever that famous tester is, mentioned that even some OEM cables are not compliant. That may have been related to USB C to C cables, but I don't remember the exact quote.

I'm personally still using the OEM cable at home from release day, and a Volutz Type A to C I got soon after. I've always have had great luck with Volutz cables.

I'm using an aukey brand cable to sync my phone to the PC. I connect my OEM charger to the external battery charger and swap batteries. I think doing it that way will put less stress on the phone and temperatures will remain low, fast charging isn't always good. I only fast charge in my car with my aukey quick charge 3.0, it tops off pretty quick but am afraid of it getting too hot.

The battery can handle more heat than you think, and LG is overly aggressive in my opinion with thermal based charge throttling. Unless you're doing something like running GPS with the phone in direct sunlight, I wouldn't worry about that much.

Might be the reason why we are seeing one or two people with this issue. Good thing I always used high quality cables.

I used nothing but the LG charging cable with mine, and still bootlooped. Sounds like a pretty weak attempt by LG/posters to place blame anywhere but with the device. As prior discussed, there was also no water damage either, so cross that off the list with mine as well.

The OP was not directed at you.

No one was placing blame and no one said you used an incorrect cable. The original poster found a link which provided an explanation from LG on a unit that bootlooped and offered it as a possible explanation.

If I recall correctly you had issues with your camera results in another thread and when people offered suggestions you took it personal.

As I said, it simply seems like someone, apparently LG, looking to place blame on the user vs the product.

The camera issue...yes, I slightly took it personal when a poster jumped in and said....he could guarantee if he stood right next to me he could have gotten much better photos... seemed an odd implication to me.

Honestly, there could be a many different reason why it bootlooped. But the fact is the numbers are low for the G5 and V20 and LG has fixed those issues from the G4 and V10. If you take care of your phone and not let it reach very high temperatures, expose it to extreme conditions, and don't try to modify the OS, then it should be fine. There still could be a small number of cases of it happening however, but with any phone there is always a risk and a chance of hardware failure. All in all, the phone has a 1 year warranty if anything.

I dont disagree with the above, except saying "lg has fixed the issues with the g4 and v10". Happily for most, things are good, but it seems like i happened to enough v20 owners they added that to the class action complaint/lawsuit. I don't think it will amount to a hill of beans, and im glad LG/Verizon replaces the phones for us...as i said prior its just the bummer of losing your phone for a few days, having to restart all over again, and hoping it doesn't happen again.

That said i wish for a healthy v20 life for everyone in here. I guess i got unlucky but it stung more due to three lg4 failures during that debacle.

If you read the survey which added the G5 and V20 you would find it devoid of any actual fact gathering at best. The lawyers in the class action suit are serving their own self interest. I'm not saying that there are no G5 or V20 bootlooped devices. I'm saying the lawyers wrote in such a way as to gather false data to build a case.

I think the lawyers are certainly looking for more to line their pocket books with. Heck, I'm sure they would've been looking for any reason to add additional users to the complaint even if the V20 and G5 had no reported bootloop cases. I'm sure they're already looking to add the G6 and wishing the V30 was already out.

To be honest, I'm surprised a judge even allowed this to move forward since I'm not aware of any injuries or LG not honoring the warranties en masse. Then again, I guess you can sue for anything; whether or not you win is a different story.

Which is why i didn't pay attention to it, or read it. I saw it mentioned adding the v20, but as far as my own desire to waste my time for what....best case scenario a .35 cent payout to everyone who signed up....just not interested.
