Check battery case message

I keep getting a check battery case message when I turn on my phone. I've checked the case cover and it seems to be in place. Does the phone have a defect?

You may need to scroll down a bit to see it, but there should be a box you check to not see it again. There are a few messages that will pop up the first time around. You opt to not see them anymore.
