I have looked through the user manual, but I cannot find any information about the check mark status icon that appears under the "H+" sometimes [it seems to happen when I'm on Wi-Fi]. Anyone know what this means?

From my understanding is this means H+(Check mark) indicates that HSPA+ is available, but is not currently being used for data since it is being preempted by WiFi.

Agreed with both posters above ^^^^
The only time I see or happen to notice the check mark under the H+, is when I have a WiFi connection, which I took as the data connection is off because of the WiFi

I am having the same issue and turned off the wifi after reading the above posts. The check mark has not gone away. My phone is not working correctly, and I have never seen the check mark before this. When I turn it off then back on it says I have no network connection, then goes to E+ then finally H+ with the check mark. I am not receiving nor can I make phone calls or texts. Help?

The check mark means the network is available but not currently being used. You may see it even when not connected to wifi. If you can't make or receive calls, then you definitely have a problem. Have you tried restarting?

I have had the same problem and it happened again today. I can send txt, make calls but can not send recieve emails or MMS or get on the internet. It happened today after I had the phone plugged to the computer. Whe I get back in the office I plugged the phone back up and the problem went away. It's like the phone gets stuck on some setting until it is plugged back up tothe computer.

I really hope someone can tell me what is going on and how to change it back without connection tot he computer. I was on the road most of the day and could not get my emails... very frustrating.

jstevenj,

I am having this exact same problem with a brand new HTC Inspire 4g.

Did you ever figure out what is causing this?

Thanks,
Tim

I had this once (being unable to make CS/PS calls with H+ and a check) and the way I recovered was a battery pull. I am not sure if it was a network issue or device issue. I am leaning towards device since I saw no iPhone users stomping on their phones. I was running the stock Froyo load at the time. I have not seen that issue again but I have not been back to that location and am running GB.

you can also lock to 2G via star codes...

Once in a while (about 2 times a week) my phone will not reconnect with the H+ network automatically. I will have to go to "Settings -> Wireless&Networks -> Enable Mobile Network"

This usually fixes the problem and gets rid of the check mark. Sometimes (once a month) it won't connect and I'll have to restart the phone.

Bug, perhaps? It happened on 2.2, and it continues to happen on 2.3.3.

That status icon is data related and should have no effect on making or receiving calls. Your signal bars to the right of it will indicate phone network strength.

As a side note, I have been stuck on Edge for days now with only rare switching over to H+. Thieves just raided my local cell tower for copper grounding plates... related??

Without a doubt. What are the odds that the thieves thought "we better make sure to reconnect any wires we cut so as not to interrupt service".:p
