I have heard you can manually make your phone check for an OTA update by dialing *#*#checkin#*#* (*#*#2432546#*#*). Try this and tell me what you get. It didn't work for me.

I heard in the ADC podcast that this might help.

If you are not rooted then just use the software update feature to check your status.

Well MacOS does incorporate some of BSD, and the BSD mascot just happens to be a little pitchfork wielding demon, so yeah I guess there is in a way.
