Chomp SMS not showing unread count properly on Galaxy S9

[Android Central Question]

Hello, just bought a Galaxy S9 and installed Chomp SMS on it which was my go to SMS app for my S7.

For some reason the unread count shows quickly and then disappears so I have no badge showing on the app.

Has anyone else experienced this?
