Choose WHICH Contact Picture GMAIL Displays

I have chosen a contact photo, this shows in the phones (Android 4.1.1) People app, it also shows up in the phone's GMAIL app, just not the web GMAIL where it shows the Google+ picture instead. Any ideas how to fix this so it uses MY chosen photo? Thanks.

Open the contact, edit and tap the picture (or blank, grey square) and then either take a photo or choose one from your gallery.

Thanks I have already done that for all my contacts, I just want GMAIL to use the ones I select. It is now using the correct icon, just took a while even though I'd reloaded gmail, I'm guessing thats a caching bug.
