Chrome Causes My Crashes

I have had my Nexus 10 since mid December. Up until about 3 weeks ago, I used Chrome for my browser as I do on my laptop. What I found was that my Nexus 10 would crash daily and it only happened while using Chrome. So, I switched to Dolphin. Since using Dolphin I have had no crashes while browsing. Whenever I try to use Chrome, inevitably the Nexus freezes up and either restarts on it's own or I restart it.

1. Does anyone else experience this?
2. Is it possible to uninstall Chrome (haven't tried other than to see if through settings/apps)? And then reinstall?

I would rather use Chrome because of the syncing and the whole Google ecosystem convenience, but wow, it's beyond me why Google's own browser would cause so many problems with it's own tablet.

Looking for ideas, opinions, comments.

Thanks.

I dont think you can fully uninstall it. You can Disable it, which in some versions then removes any updates applied. Also at this screen you can delete any stored data Chrome was using, somewhat like clearing the way for a "fresh reinstall". Then you can re-enable it and re-apply updates. There is also (or at least was a couple months ago) a "Chrome Beta" browser. You could try that if sticking to the Google eco-system is a must-have for you.

On the aspect of suprised about Google releasing w/ such errors - yeah, I agree. I understand this is all "cutting edge OS and cutting edge hardware", but it sure dosent seem to take too long for the general popluation to bubble up some bugs, so I'm sure Google's at least seen them...

You can get rid of it but only if you root I believe. But you're definitely not the only on experiencing this.

I've had my N10 since christmas. Using the Chrome browser it was freezing and rebooting at least twice a day. Switched to Dolphin which I prefer and I haven't had a freeze since. I agree the problem is definitely due to Chrome. And yes its sad that Google's own browser causes the problem.

To be fair, it's Chrome Beta I think that causes it so being in a beta stage it's not too surprising.

You have not been searching or reading this forum.

* Chrome has been the primary cause of many people's crashing, it is well known and well documented that it is unstable in Jellybean.
* The previous update to last, itself, was also the cause of the majority of non-Chrome crashing and the last (recent) update has fixed most non-Chrome crashing.
* Indeed it is strange that this would happen to Google's own browser. I have not suffered with it, since I use Firefox exclusively.
* Firefox has syncing just like Chrome, and is just fine in the Google ecosystem. It has a matching desktop browser for every platform, is true open source, and ALSO supports adblock and Flash. It is also likely to preserve your privacy more.
* "Uninstalling" and reinstalling Chrome will not fix Chrome crashing.
* Disabling Chrome is not necessary to benefit from using some other browser.
* It is likely that eventually Chrome will be fixed, probably not too long from now.

Honestly, Chrome Beta has been far more stable (as of 4.2.2) than the regular version shipped with the device. Sometimes I think it's the Play Store that causes random crashes and reboots. Often immediately after rebooting from a a crash I catch an app auto-updating. Just yesterday, in the midst of updating several apps the tablet spontaneously rebooted, so it's not all Chrome's fault.

I never use Chrome on Android or my laptop so I wouldn't know much about it.

This is from me, on my EVO 3D.

I believe the latest Chrome update for Android system caused the crash problem. About 2 to 3 weeks ago, Chrome had an update, this latest Chrome is crashing my Andoid v4.1.2 every day! Before the new version of Chrome, I had been using the old version Chrome for a couple of years and I did not see any crash. I wish Google would seriously look into the crash problem or would roll back the old version of Chrome before fixing the crashing problem. Are Google s/w engineers listening to us?????

If enough people mention a problem then it's unlikely they won't be aware of it.

Google is listening, but sadly enough they have to "do the math" on the problem - if it only affects a certain % of users, and then in turn if those users only represent another % of 'sales' / 'lost sales' they may or may not fix the situation.

Of note, if you are on N10 you would be on 4.2.1, not 4.1.2. (And current version is now at 4.2.2)

I did open chrome once or twice for the sake of checking out..but now im using dolphin =)
chrome didnt crashed on me though

Same here. Those are the times I have experienced the random reboot: Play Store while updating and using Chrome. Chrome though has improved with latest updates, Play Store has not.

So you're getting crashes while using the Play Store?

So weird...its got to be a hardware thing. I've had my tablet since launch, I use it every single day without fail for both work (**** my windows laptop) and leisure.. I've had exactly two crashes where the tablet rebooted...both were related to trying to run an application while another one was updating...
