chrome mobile app odd behaviour?

I noticed after a recent update to my s21 ultra that chrome is acting weird. I had a load of tabs open (around 40) and came out to do something else. When I went back into chrome it was like I had just started it - no tabs. So I did some searches and got around 3 or 4 tabs open. Came out of chrome and when I went back in the original tabs were all back (40). Came out and back in and the second lot of tabs I had opened were there (3 or 4) and the original set had gone. I can go in and out and it's like 2 different chrome's are running. It did this after an update but then stopped for a week or so and has just started again today with no updates (phone or app). Not sure what is going on. It's not a big pain as I know if I want to revisit something I had open I just come back out and back in and it's there.

Just wondered if there might be an explanation as I've never had this before.

Never had 40 open max about 20 but once i was aware i clear them out , maybe 40 is a bit much and gets glitchy

Yeah I'm a bit lazy. With closing tabs around 40 is quite low for me sometimes it's been closer to 100 but I've never had this weird behaviour before.

Could be. I don't know enough about it to say. But my guess is you would see the groups within chrome and not seeing different tabs when you go in and out? I dont know.
Anyway it's still going on but today I noticed when I was leaving the app then going back in I was seeing the same tabs. I assumed the issue had resolved but when I clicked the three lines to see what apps were open I could see another chrome that had a different group of tabs. Not a big issue really. Just odd.

In device care when you open it tap the 3 dots upper right corner, automation tap make sure close apps to free up memory is off and another thing is in recent used app list card lock chrome to stay open when ram gets cleared out , maybe something to do with this Screenshot_20220811_100753_Device%20care.jpg

They have tab grouping now. I'm wondering if this is your issue. You might have multiple groups.

Also holy cow that's a lot of open tabs lol. Why? I like using bookmarks instead of leaving tabs open.

Thanks all. This isn't a conscious thing to keep tabs open. Just laziness on my part with closing. I closed all tabs (in both versions) then force closed chrome. Seems to be operating as normal now.

One other question related to this. Does having multiple tabs open in chrome affect battery life? I've been seeing poor battery performance recently and chrome is the main culprit. Not sure if I should be closing out tabs once I have finished with them to help with battery?

It can but chrome is a battery hog

I would think that having tons of tabs open could impact battery as well as performance, because open tabs require RAM.
