Anyone have a problem on P30 where Chrome randomly freezes when scrolling or typing? I have to put it in the background and restore it and then it works again. It's annoying as hell and happens very often. I don't know if it's a Chrome problem or EMUI problem. What's the solution for this? The phone is awesome otherwise but this one thing ruins the experience.

Hi welcome to AC!

See if you have any updates to Google Chrome or andriod webview app , I'm not sure how u have Google service but been updates in play store

I have both Chrome and Webview in the newest possible versions. This problem exists ever since I got this phone over a year ago and no update helps.

When it freezes, what happens if you try to scroll, go to the home screen and go back to Chrome? When you go back to Chrome, is it where you left it, or is the page moved from the prior scroll attempt?

If the page is scrolled, this seems to be a problem with Chrome itself. The app is still responding to input (even typing), but the display isn't refreshing for some reason. I've had it on my LG V60 for some time now, and have seen other complaints about it. So far, I haven't seen any fixes for it.

Welcome to Android Central! You've already tried clearing the Chrome app's cache and data in Settings>Apps?

Yup, this exact thing happens

Coincidentally I'm having the same issue on my work desktop computer. I work from home and VPN in from my home laptop. When I use Chrome to clock in and use other websites that I use frequently for my job Chrome is slow and sometimes locks up.
I can't say whether this is related to the posted issue or not but it might be related.

I think we are just left to wait until Google addresses the problem. This happened to me on out of the box software, so I doubt any cache clearing, data resets, etc. will fix it. There is a feedback option in the Chrome settings to report such issues, but don't expect a reply.

Also on Huawei device they don't come with google service , so you have to install it a different way ? Possible this is a issue.

I'm waiting over a year now and they didn't fix it yet, so I don't think they are ever going to do it

Just to be clear -- you also cleared the app data as well as the cache?

Yup, I cleared everything. This issue doesn't seem to be related to Chrome app data at all. But it's definitely a Chrome issue because all other apps work fine.

I wonder if it might be a CPU issue. I see occasional scrolling freezes using Chrome on my Lenovo Tab M8 FHD, which has a Mediatek Helio A22. Your phone uses a Kirin 980. Maybe this kind of thing tends to happen more often on non-Qualcomm devices.

On my Lenovo, when Chrome freezes, I find that bringing up the App Overview makes it work again, so give that a try.

Can also try developer settings and put the 3 I circled to .5 see if that helps Screenshot_20210423-213742_Settings.jpg

I think I FINALLY found the solution. In chrome://flags find the "Android SurfaceControl" flag and disable it. I disabled it few days ago and didn't have the freezing problem even once.
