Chromebook Discussion

What does everybody think of the announcements today from Intel and Google on Chromebooks?

I was very excited about the hardware offerings that were announced and to see a glimpse about how Intel and the OEMs view their objectives, design philosophies, etc. They didn't seem very prepared to handle questions about higher level hardware (in terms of specs, obviously not performance) releases, etc. Overall it went pretty well, IMO.

I'm disappointed in the lack of better quality screens. More horsepower and slightly improved battery life are always nice, but I find the current generation of celeron haswell are up to the task.
I'd like my next chromebook to sport a 13 inch IPS screen of the quality in the current HP, but with 1080p resolution. For around $400. I don't think I'm being unreasonable.

I thought the announcement did seem kind of amateurish. The problem now is all these Chromebooks and they're all the same specs....what makes one better than the other?

I agree. I can't recall 1 Chromebook that has both power and an excellent screen. However the majority of people that Chromebooks are intended for don't need HD displays.

Next year will be the year for mid to high end Chromobooks.
The market just needs to grow and it will.

I do think the growth rate so far is pretty amazing. After actually using Google docs I see why schools are flocking to it. It's so simple.

I'm hoping we can revive this thread to get some answers!

Does anybody know how a chromebook would do with audio/video production? I know it's not as close as a production machine but up upper basic to lower mid production.

What I'm looking to do is hook a video camera to it to be able to record video and plug a sound mixer into it to record audio and down the road maybe live stream the video. Also maybe some transitions and slight video editing. Anybody?

You're comparing a $1200 build to a niche-filler. Apples and oranges. Actually more like apples and dinosaurs.

My Galaxy Note 3 did this.
