chromecast casts netflix youtube etc but I cant access settings from the app

Mine finally arrived by mail today, i was able to set it up [ had to turn off MAC filtering on my router ] chromecast casts netflix youtube etc but I cant access settings from the app. I get the dreaded cannot connect to chromecast. Any thoughts?

I'm on a Linksys router, app running from my Nexus 10. PC connected to router by cat 5 can see the chromecast as well. Info have a range extender but neither Wi-Fi device is using it to access the lan.

In the meantime I'm hoping the firmware will Update on its own.

"I cant access settings from the app" what do you mean? access chromecast settings from android app??? or access settings of netflix or youtube app??

I believe you mean the first settings. use this PC app and it works well.

also, just an fyi when you use the pc app it will show chromecast's mac address,then you can enable MAC filtering and add it to your router


To update chromecast you have to switch of the TV and switch it on. it will automatically update.

Yep I meant access the settings via the chromecast app, it is all good now. It suddenly started working then I was able to update.

Thanks for the link! I already got the Mac address during initial setup and added. But I think that chrome app will come in handy. I'll spend the weekend playing with setting to see if I can get Mac filtering functional again.
