Chromecast issue - girlfriends iphone works flawlessly, my s8 doesn't

Hi everyone

I know there are surfacing various issues all around concerning chromecast devices and issues related to them. However, i have not been able to find anyone experiencing my issues (which have been present for 6 months +).

My girlfriends Iphone works flawlessly with all our devices, but i have issues finding/connecting half the time on my S8. I have tried clearing the cache of both Google Services and the Home app. It seemed to work the first time i did it, but has since then stopped working. I also frequently restart the phone with varying success. (I have of course also tried restarting the router.)

Since we have one phone that works perfectly, i doubt that the issue lies with the chromecast devices or the router itself.

Do anyone have a fix / idea what the issue is. I cant stop wondering how in the world an android phone has less success with google products than an apple phone..

Anywho, thanks in advance for any pointers on the matter.

Do you have location options enabled? Remember that Chromecast uses that too to find nearby devices.

Yes i do have location enabled. Furthermore, sometimes the "listen for pin" option works, but that is only relevant for chromecast devices, not chrome audio.

For me it seems to fail (but it's also failed with iPads, so not sure why your S8 seems to fail more and not your iPhone) when I try to switch between TVs I have that are almost next to each other (only a wall between them), but yeah, it's a PITA when it happens. Usually rebooting the Chromecast works better than doing anything on the phone, to be honest, but it sucks when it happens.

I've been seeing the issue for months as well, too. What used to work usually is toggling wifi, and then using UPNP Browser to initiate the scan. However, that doesn't seem to work now.

My and my wife's S8's do this, while our Lenovo and Fire tablets work fine. Casting from chrome on my desktop also works fine.

Therefore, it feels like an S8 problem.

Everyone had this outage a couple months ago, and it was a bug in play services. I'm guessing a similar bug still exists in play services but only on S8.
