Re: Chromecast: Stuck at "Connecting..." when casting YouTube - THE PROBLEMS AND THE ANSWER
When I start a YouTube cast from my phone (Galaxy Nexus) or tablet (Nexus 7 and Nexus 10), the video starts playing fine... but on the device, the YouTube video window display changes to "Connecting..." and doesn't allow me to control the video or add new videos to a queue. In fact the only way to play another video is to close/kill YouTube and start it again. No such issues when casting from Chrome on a PC. My phone/tablet are running fairly stock 4.3 ROMs. Anyone else seeing this?
I am posting this in the hopes that people will see this answer. And maybe build on the things i have determined below. This problem has developed on me randomly overnight. From what i can tell several years difference from the original posting to now have passed, so this is an ongoing issue that i believe google needs to look into resolving.
I use an advanced pfsense controlled network config with all hardwired computers and wifi devices sitting on their own separate subnet. I have multiple different android devices on hand, the primary ones are a pair of Note 4's with one modded and one not, as well as a dual boot tablet. I have confirmed that :
This is not a hardware issue with the phones
This is not a hardware issue with the chromecast,
This does not happen on any other app on any mobile device with casting abilities
This problem does not occur on the computers on my network on a separate subnet
PFSense has not changed in functionality or its settings in the last 90+ days
pfsense logs show no alteration in the requests being sent through my network
and
ONLY YOUTUBE HAS THIS PROBLEM.
The version of youtube on all devices are different, so its not version sensitive
I have:
flushed and reset all settings to what they were backed up to be and working properly 90+ days ago in pfsense,
flushed and reset all settings on my dell 2748,
flushed and reset all settings on my modem itself
factory reset my chrome cast,
factory reset my wifi AP's,
removed all satellite wifi access points leaving only 1 active
changed that wifi AP to a new unused previously AP
altered the wifi subnet,
merged the subnets,
removed pfsense from the wifi / chromecast loop by setting up a seperate network
not a one of these things resolved the issue.
fear not i have also devised a workaround, which is as follows :
Open the home app on your android device, and then expand the left menu. You will see something along the lines of a "cast your screen and audio" option. Enable this and then open youtube, and use the OS to do the mirroring legwork. Yes this has its limitations but overall solves the youtube not casting problem, until someone fixes this on a developer level.
