Maybe there is a post that can explain this in detail but I haven't had any luck to find a post that explain the order of install Root, Roms, Kernals and radios. If you know of a link please share..

I have been reading over the post and trying to get the process of rooting and installing ROMs on a HTC Thunderbolt, I have got it down to a art of doing any customizing on my Droid X but since HTC appears to be quite a bit different and I am not absolutely sure of correct way to install curtain parts...

With Droid X all themes and roms depends on the OS build but when I look over the roms for the HTC TB it does not specifically say if the build is a factor to consider, the one click root method speaks about the MR1 update but nothing of the MR2 build but the leaked version was released before the official version but this version was still rooted but I havent been able to figure out the process and if the MR1 version will work.

So here is where I am sitting...

1. How can I be sure that I am using the correct items (Root, Roms, Kernels and radios)
2. Does the MR1 root process works on the MR2 update
3. If this doesn't work, how can I install the MR2 update if I use the Auto One Click Method
4. When is a Radio required to be installed - At what point do you install
5. When is Kernels required to be installed - At what point do you install
6. The best method that can restore back to stock build for returning for service or repair.. I hear about MUU files and I was wondering if this is similar to a SBF file for Motorola and if so after installing do it restore everything or do you have to restore the radio for that image?

Sorry for all the newb questions but I am about to get a TB and I want to understand this before I start because I hear it isn't as easy to restore from a brick situation like it is with the Motorola..

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

1. first you root, if that's what you want to do. rooting will leave you (currently) with the mr1 update radio, rom, and kernel, and from there (after you make a nandroid backup with clockworkmod recovery) you can move on.
2. the process works with mr2 thunderbolts, but it leaves you with mr1 software, i believe.
3. once you use the root method, you can upgrade to the mr2 update with root enabled and debloated, which is available at xda forums if you check the android development section over there.
4. if you install the mr2 update debloated with root, you will not need to change your radio, bc that RUU file that you will flash for that comes with radio, rom, and kernel included. you need to change your radio when you upgrade from roms based in an older RIL version, or if you downgrade to something, etc. Flashing a root enabled RUU file will leave you with everything you need, and you will not need to change your radio unless you want to. There's a bunch of stuff to learn about kernels, but you can figure that out as time goes by. currently, the mr2 (official ota) is the latest radio, and if you decide to mess with custom roms, most of the new ones run with the official mr2 radio anyway.
5. same thing with kernels. if you only intend to flash this mr2 RUU, you will not need to mess with kernels unless you choose to. there are lots of kernels available for thudnerbolt, but you are mostly looking at imoseyon's leankernels, which you can become familiar with in a short amount of time if you wish.
6. there is a root thread at xda that will put you back to stock / s-on, and i think there is an auto unroot available if you're more comfortable with that.

good luck

Thanks for the info, but I am wondering about the report of installing GB radios if I wanted to use [7.14.11][ROM] Das BAMF Sense 3.0 RC4.9 from http://forums.androidcentral.com/th...9-7-14-11-rom-das-bamf-sense-3-0-rc4-9-a.html ..

So if I want to install this rom is this the correct steps??
1. Root using Auto root from http://forums.androidcentral.com/th...unroot-windows-updated-5-20-w-mr1-update.html which will have me on MR1
2. Install and backup nandroid with ROM Manager
3. Install [7.14.11][ROM] Das BAMF Sense 3.0 RC4.9 rom from http://forums.androidcentral.com/th...9-7-14-11-rom-das-bamf-sense-3-0-rc4-9-a.html

At this point will I be done or do I still need to install the MR2 Radio from [RADIO] Official OTA MR2 Radio 1.39.00.0627r [7/8/2011] - xda-developers

No, its all set up. If you flashed bamf already you can long press power, select restart, the select bootloader.

There are good instructions on flashing a radio in cyber warriors sticky guide.

Check md5 for the radio b4 you flash.

Thank You, you have been very helpful, I always check the MD5 file size as a habit.... Thanks to this info I think I am ready for when my TB gets here...
