Hello everyone

I just got a new phone, and while activating the phone I used my micro SD card from my old phone. Now I realize that the SD card probably has a lot of files on it that I really don't need.

Though I'm also afraid that I'll delete something I need. Since I want to free up my SD card and get rid of all the junk, what's the best way to do this? Do I just want to reformat my SD card or will that delete all the information stored from my new phone? Or since the phone is so new it doesn't matter what files are deleted (other than my contacts which are backed up).

you can format it either on the phone or pull it and format it on your computer. without knowing what phone you have there is no way to give the exact steps. you can try the following steps on your phone. it should be close.

Open your Apps list and find the Settings icon, then tap on it.
Scroll down the Settings list until you find Storage. ...
Scroll down to the bottom of the Storage list to see your SD card options. ...
Confirm you want to wipe your memory card by pressing the Erase SD card or Format SD card button.

Your best option is to unmount your SD card from your phone and insert it into the card reader on your PC, then copy all the files to your HDD in your PC. Afterwards, check that all your files are there and working properly. At that point you may format the SD card in the new phone and start over from scratch with no files.

I do not recommend formatting the SD card until you have copied its contents and saved them, since formatting erases all files on the card.
