Question You Tube app's Cast icon missing.

2 days now. Staying in a regular hotel chain for another few days. Worked fine this last week, as in the past, with a Chromecast 2 (newly re - purchased)

Tried all the fixes, it doesn't come back.
Others like : Patreon, Vimeo via browser, BBC iPlayer, Prime, Channel 4 here all still Cast fine so it's a YT app issue.
Cleared cache, exited app, restarted phone, changed my underwear, checked updates... the icon is not there on the main / landing page or when starting a YT video.
The WiFi is fine, the Chromecast works.

I guess I can try via the Chrome browser or my old Moto E6 when I get back to the room tonight.

I am addicted to several channels, so this is serious, folks!

Any ideas? Do you have the cast icon?

If you do resort to using the web site in Chrome then don't forget to tick the Desktop Version option to get the casting option shown.

The Cast icon did come back a short while ago after I eventually Cleared Data, though not immediately.

It's now gone again.

I had hoped my "Subscribed to" channel list and Watch Later list would remain with the Google account or whatever, and they did.

I opened a first YT notification pop up thing a while after clearing data and then trying and closing a video (no cast icon still) , which prompted something about downloads can still play in the background on Premium and linking to the settings for this. Two quick video plays, then I went back to the notification and now the Cast icon has gone again.

Best guess is it has something to do with restarting a You Tube Premium Lite monthly subscription this week after a day without Lite.

I would normally see a Premium badge on the top left (most times) even with just my Premium Lite subscription, but that had disappeared, for a few days I think.

Something they are possibly working on, as the launch page seems different as well.

I'll try to give them feedback for all it's worth, and hope the Cast icon comes back again.

Long press the YouTube app >press info>upper right corner tap uninstall

I "rolled it back" by uninstalling all updates to land at version 17. something... from version 21.11.483. That wouldn't open so I updated to the latest version again. Opened the app. Icon wasn't there. Closed the app, cleared cache fwiw, then reopened a second time and the...

Cast icon is back!
Hurrah. For now.

I feel it will disappear again on this current version.
Definitely something to do with the (recent?) Premium Lite offer - thing - confusing the You Tube boffins under the hood.

If you have play store update apps automatically turn that off so you can stay on that previous version until next update

I tried App Info where there's just an Uninstall Updates button on the bottom, and when the app is open I can't see anything relevant from the Settings Wheel icon on the upper right.

I'm not bothered now for a day or so anyway.
I'll keep an eye on it to see if it corrects itself.

That Uninstall just roll back to previous then the one it's currently on , if it was just updated recently it rolls back from that version, now if you can uninstall the app completely then you can install much later version at APK mirror

Currently I had a temporary work around last evening by Uninstalling Updates in App Info again bringing me to Version 17. - -, then updating again back to the current version where the Cast icon will appear and function until I close the app!

I don't know when another update will roll out after this 12 March version, but that may fix it.

Other than that I can try install the APK when I'm not too tired.

I meant to try Cast to screen or whatever (it's a Samsung hotel tv and I also have it on my phone) but I thought in the past it only cast video without audio.

I don't know what about all, but I had at least determined my issue.

My app is updated, nothing available to update.. version is 20.14.41 and there are no pending updates for me.

Mom's Galaxy YouTube is 21.11.483 and everything is just perfect for her.

How do I get that version? Playstore doesn't show anything. Please help

I see you talk about old devices and alternative methods but what is your current device?

If you find that it works for you when you go through all of those twists and turns, instead of clearing the cache for the app, clear the data for your YouTube app. Clearing the data for your cloud apps, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc, shouldn't cause you to lose any actual data. You're not going to lose anything, in this case, that you uploaded or anything like that. You may have to sign in again and you will lose any app settings that you changed, dark mode, reverse alphabetical order, etc, but you won't lose your playlists or saved channels. All of that stuff is stored at YouTube in your account with them. The app is just an interface for the site and your account and doesn't store anything other than how the app functions (like its settings) and how you interface with your account (like dark mode and display order).

The long and short of my advice, clear the app data instead of just the cache and see if your issues clear up too. If it were me, I would remove the updates, because the update likely developed some kind of bug when it installed, clear the app cache and data, or just the data, up to you, then allow the update immediately afterwards.

Cast (your phone's screen) or Screencast in my phone settings (Xiaomi / Poco) does actually work now with the Samsung TV Cast option and includes the Audio to the TV, so I can use my wired headphones from the TV with an extended cable (sue me, I'm old )

It didn't work in past hotel stays but possibly those TVs were not connected to the WiFi.

Problem is the resolution and quality is poor, along with letterboxing on most things.
Also annoying to navigate You Tube that way.

Like I mentioned uninstall the update and don't let play store update it until I bee update is available from the one that probably has a bug.

I can't uninstall just the recent update, only revert to a V 17 and then update to the current version again, where the cast icon and the cast to tv in YT settings return.

I'm no different so I should probably mention I'm still on Android 12 if that has anything to do with it.
My 2020 phone still performs like the flagship it was, though I may get a new Poco X8 Pro shortly.

I have spent two evenings catching up on YT channels so I'm good in that I can fix it in 5 minutes.

A Version 17.... shows up with a cast icon but it's inactive. Going back to current version brings up the Cast icon and the user account button back to the top right instead of bottom right.
If I temporarily close the app, or sometimes if I leave it in my recent tabs too long it reverts to no icon and user / letter icon button thing goes to bottom right instead of Library.
