Cleaning the gap?

After about a month of use I've noticed there seems to be debris/dust that gets stuck in small gaps around the front of the phone where the screen meets the edge of the phone. I have no idea how it gets there. I'm very OCD and usually wipe the screen with a microfiber cloth once a day (though maybe that's the reason).

Has anybody else experienced this? If so how do you clean it? Is this normal for this device?

Is your glass lifted from the frame? Can you post a screenshot?

The glass looks like it's resting fine however it is not completely flush all around with the second black frame that surrounds it. To describe it a bit more in detail starting from the top main glass screen, the phone is then followed by another dark frame that seems to be rubbery in nature or something (I take it this is for water resistance?) and then that dark frame meets the side of the device.

Well between the top main glass and the dark frame around it there seems to be a bit of a gap that is open enough to allow dust to build up around the frame and get stuck in there. It occurs on all edges but on some sides more than others. I actually saw on reddit that some people have encountered the same and even have used canned air to get dust out or even a side of a sticky note which I did try and does fit in that gap.

I hope this makes sense.

It's just strange if this is supposed to be like this. My wife keeps teasing me saying not even her iPhone 7 has private parts that need to be cleaned periodically. :*(

I'll try to see if I can capture it in a picture.

Ok see if can post some screenshots.

On the second picture you can see I can fit the edge of a post-it in all that edge around the phone which is where the dust builds up.

Looks like build up around screen protector, should be able clean with damp towel.

No it is not around the screen protector. The screen protector ends short of the whole screen and understandibly that gets dirty but keep looking toward the edge. Imagine it without the screen protector on. See where the sticky note is inserted? That's the edge of the glass screen and black border that form part of the phone. Might help to click on the image and zoom in. The sticky note can actually even go under the bottom of the screen!

Ok I'll take 2nd look

I see what you mean , considering a post-it is around 0.003in, its tight tolerance, don't know the spec for phone but you could blow little compressed air and go over with damp cloth

Yeah I can actually clean it with the sticky note but this is really awkward to me. I've never had a device with this kind of issue. Does it happen with your phone too? The problem is not cleaning it (though I am very OCD as mentioned earlier). I'm just concerned whether this is a manufacturing defect or is this just how all Pixel 3 phones are built?

I have the pixel 3xl , I would have to check this , I'm not sure if it's a defect

Little bit , I try keep my phones pretty clean .

Same here. Well I guess that puts me at ease. It's just so odd to me that that can happen. I didn't even see this happen on my OG Pixel but I understand they're built differently.

My OCD can rest at ease but the ongoing playful banter between my wife (iOS lover) and I (android lover) continues.

Yeah , I'm not aware of what clearance it supposed to have , but I don't think any concern .lol as long as she's happy with her phone and you are with yours .

Out of curiosity I contacted Google Support and they are offering me a RMA device. Aside from this gap my current phone has no issues. I'm not sure getting a refurbished device will fix the issue if this is just standard on their phones. I'd had to get a replacement device that could possibly have other issues instead and still have the same gap "issue".

I'm curious when you get the replacement if it's going be same.

The thing is I haven't agreed to receive the replacement device yet. I asked Google if there's any way they can confirm to me the replacement won't have the same issue. I'm really happy with my device aside from this that IF it is a manufacturining defect I rather get it resolved but I would hate to receive a device that fixes this but then has other issues.

Yeah understandable.
