Still learning a lot about this great phone but I don't like how the clock keeps popping up on the lock screen every 5-8 seconds! Anyone else having this issue? Thanks in advance.

Its called breathing. Its supposed to do this. When u get a notification it will give u a symbol under the clock.

I actually like this better than a blinking light. A lot of people have fallen in love w moto display. And it doesnt use any more battery than a blinking light

Very cool thanks for the explanation. I noticed it lacks the LED! I can learn to like that!

It was a new feature that came out on the original Moto X that was so popular they stayed with it. Just wait until you activate your voice and her able to talk to the phone without having to touch it lol

I had the same initial impression when I got the first version of the Droid Maxx, which premiered exclusively on Verizon around the time of the release of the original Moto X. I missed the LED for about a week or 2 and then I realized how much more efficient the Moto Display was in terms of notifying you what types of content is coming in. This feature has really changed the way I interact with my phone in a subtle but extremely useful way whereby I can readily identify and manage what's coming in; and in a faster and smoother way. I am not interested in having a phone at this point that does not contain this feature.

I thought it was a pattern but after watching it, it seems to flash randomly. Breathing? As someone earlier posted? My first Motorola device and loving it

There's a Moto setting that turns on a sensor which allows you to make it pop up whenever you waive your hand over it. This can be turned off. In addition, if you bump or move your phone, or if there's a large vibration, or the platform the phone is placed on shakes for whatever reason, it will also pop up. If you receive a notification - text message, missed call, any game or feed - it will pop up and begin breathing. And it can display 3 notification icons at one time as you've probably noticed so you can quickly access the app that's notified you in the order you prefer without even turning your screen on or pulling down the notification bar like you would on other phones. If you don't have an active notification, it shouldn't be breathing unless the phone is disturbed (in which case it's not really breathing, just popping up for a sec.) , and depending on your settings, if you waive your hand over the phone.

Great explanation thanks! Could you tell me where the moto setting is? I've looked under settings but find nothing.

All the Moto functions are accessed from the Moto app, should be on your home screen.

Find it great thanks again! Love it! Can I change the subject and ask a different question? My other phone (Samsung) had the option to vibrate and silence from the drop down/notification bar. But I don't see it. Pulling down twice shows WiFi, Bluetooth, hotspot, etc.

Unfortunately, there is no option to toggle sound settings from that notification bar (nor a way to edit it like on a Samsung). Google really messed up the way volume settings work for this version of Android, as they decided to tinker with something that already worked fine. You can set your phone to silent by hitting one of the volume buttons and selecting "none", but keep in mind this also silences alarms. If you want to silence your phone without silencing alarms, my advice is to just select "priority" which is next to "none". Assuming you have no contacts in your priority list, this effectively silences your phone but not your alarms. Vibrate only can be set by holding down the volume down button. Thankfully, Google fixed this travesty with the new version of Android, though, so I'm excited for that (when it comes) .

FYI from homescreen, a single finger swipe down on the notification bar brings up your notifications. A two finger swipe down takes you straight to the toggle settings. Just to save you the double swipe down to get to your settings.

This is the case for the most recent Motorola phones.

Cool, got it. Anyway to change what's displayed on those toggles?

There's an app called Power Toggles that lets you put up to 16 toggles on your notification screen. I have mine set for eight: Data, Wi-fi, Brightness, Flashlight, NFC, Bluetooth, Sound, and a battery icon. Very compact, and very useful.

Another vote for Power Toggles. It's a super useful app.

This is because your smart connect is enabled. Go through your options, look for Smart connect. You probably have it set to pop up clock when either a) you plug in your charger, or b) a specific time period starts. Shut off smart connect or remove the reference to the clock app.

Check out slider widget as well. It works better for my purposes. Set a widget on your home screen, customize it. From that point all you have to do is click on the widget and you can adjust volume from there. I tried out power toggles first but didn't quite do what slider widget does, which I was looking for.
