I have an HTC Incredible 2. The clock/weather widget is giving me issues. The weather updates fine and my location is correct. So no issues there. BUT if you tapped the time you would be able to access a timer/ alarm clock/ stop watch and such. I used these frequently and now nothing happens when I click the time. ADDITIONALY I also can't add a loction for my weather. Any ideas?

I have had the exact same issue with my Incredible 2 as well (mine started to act up and stop working several months ago :'( ). I've looked through many forum threads here on AC and it's not a new issue. Unfortunately there is no easy fix in sight. Many claim that a factory reset solves the problem but many also say that the issue returns after doing such a drastic measure. A lot of people that do have experience with this phone/OS (I'm still a noob) highly recommend not to even attempt a factory reset just for this issue. I've also read threads that if you root your phone, the ability to "unfreeze" the widget is available. I wasn't able to root before the Gingerbread 2.3.4 update hit my phone though, so I couldn't find out.
I have been in contact with HTC about this issue and they "claim" that they are working on an update to fix this problem and the only advice that they can give me right now is to use Third Party apps from the Market til this is fixed. Hope this helps, even though it's probably not what you wanted to hear.

what do you meet root your phone?

what do you meet root your phone?

To "root" your phone means to use a security hole in order to gain super user access. With super user access comes the ability to do a lot of different things. If you really want to learn about it jump into the forums for ROOTING/ROMS. You have likely by now been pushed to the newest gingerbread build which closed the security loophole that was being exploited to gain root. There will be another one found, and it is rumored that the incredible 2 is going on live on HTC's website for unlocking of the boot loader as well.

As far as your issue goes, there are basically two options.

Option 1 is to download an alternative alarm clock from the market. There are many there and most are free. You can also download anycut this is an app that will allow you to recreate the shortcut that has disappeared from your phone. There is also a program, which I believe is called wigitdroid, that will allow you to created a widget that allows you access to the missing area that you need to be in to control all of the other clock settings. Both of these programs are fairly straight forward to operate and if you choose to do either and can't get what you need set up we here will be more than happy to help.

Option 2 is to do a complete factory data reset. This is indeed an extreme step as it will leave your phone like it was on day one when it came out of the box. However it is not nearly as extreme as it once was. Since the Gingerbread update we have had the luxury of backing up all of our apps and settings into the Google cloud. This is important mainly because it saves a little bit of time and effort. If you choose to do a factory reset then you need to take these steps before: 1- make sure your contacts are backed up in one way or another if you don't have all you contacts saved in your phone as Google contacts then be sure Verizon back up manager is turned on and has been synced. 2- In settings go to the Privacy screen and be sure that back up my settings and automatic restore are both checked. (When you go through activation after the re-set be sure to turn this both on as you are doing the setup) Now just for safeties sake, open your app drawer click on the little download icon at the bottom and make a quick list of everything you have downloaded. If you have the Amazon market on your phone make sure you know if the .apk for the amazon market is still in your download folder or not. All your Amazon apps will be listed when you re-install their market but be sure everything you've downloaded from the Google market is written down just to be sure. Now you are ready to re-set the phone.

There is a ton of debate about weather this is worth while or not. Some have experienced a resurgence of this bug even after a factory re-set others have re-set once and not had any more problems. You will have to set up your home screens all over again if you do. It is a lot of work, however there is a real possibility that without the re-set you will start losing other apps as well. I guess technically it is access to these apps and not the apps themselves. They are all still there but there is some bug in the Sense UI coding that is causing shortcuts to fail on the device.

Thanks

I've actually factory reset my phone a couple of time for other issues, and now it isn't so bad. I'm sort of a pro at setting up my phone. The issue with this widget occurs each time and your right it isn't worth the reset. I was hoping there was a fix for it that I haven't discoverd yet and maybe some one else has.

I'll check out other apps in the meantime.

I used that advanced task killer and killed my clock by accident and now I try and tap on the clock itself to use the alarm clock and nothing happens and when I try setting it up it says it has to force close. Is there any way I can get my clock widget back? Please help me out thanks i would appreciate it.

I did a factory reset Tuesday over the alarm clock, it worked, for about two hours. Ugh. Third time I've had to do this.

Kuruptking, Vudumedic covers it above. Known issue. Factory reset fixes it. It might come back later even if you reset. Another factory reset will fix it again. And it might break again. It's a tradeoff between functionality and hassle. Either do a factory reset, get a third party alarm/timer app such as Alarm Clock Plus, or simply do without until they possibly release a fix.

HTC promises there is a fix coming. (insert ironic grin here) although I got a hint from one of their tier 2 technical team that the fix is coming in the flavor of Ice Cream Sandwich with an update to Sense as well. He didn't outright say that was the case but he suggested that they are trying an updated version of Sense with a new version of Android and that it would be released to the public at some point in the future when they were sure the build was stable for the Vivwow.

Bah, my clock came back again, then disappeared again without a factory reset. Now the weather app isn't working. The widget updates, but when I tap it the app opens, but then there's no list of cities nor can I add any.

This is kind of ridiculous. I guess I'm calling VZW this weekend because my USB connection is shoddy anyway.

I just use third party replacement apps for both clock and weather (and pretty much all of Sense). Im not a fan of Sense, so the more things I can replace with other apps, the better IMO.

Alarm Clock -> Alarm Clock Extreme (free app of the day from Amazon)
Clock Widget -> Beautiful Widgets
Weather Widget -> Beautiful Widgets

I just had to re-re-re-re-hard reset. Now, my weather, clock, calendar, and most other sense apps stopped working. If I call verizon about this will they send me a replacement? I won a droid bionic and was kind of sad about having to leave the dinc2 behind once it colmes, but I hope there won't be so many factory resets with it.

I am new to posting in Forums, so pardon if this is in the wrong place. I too had the same unresponsive clock issue on my Incredible 2 (Droid v2.3.4, HTC Sense v2.1). I refused to do a factory reset so I decided to mess around a bit after reading these posts. Here are the steps I did and it started working (not saying this is everyone's case):
1) I downloaded and installed Go Launcher Ex but didn't like what it was trying to do and uninstalled it.
2) I then went into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications and reviewed the apps I have. Running on the theory that it was a downloaded app causing the problems, I deleted a "Sad Trombone" app, a "Rimshot" app, and Shazamm. Then I saw two Verizon apps that I never use on the "Downloaded" field and clicked on V Cast Music and V Cast Videos and uninstalled their updates.
3) I checked the clock/weather widget on my home screen and it worked!

My hunch, it may be the V Cast updates that screwed things up. I got lazy over time of updating apps whenever the phone said I needed to and set them all to auto-update but I am turning that off now.

Hope this helps somebody as ticked off as I was at not finding an answer!
