I want to make a backup rom, I have clockworkmod recovery and rom manager,I hit the make back up current rom button, and I get stuck onm the screen with the triangle and exclmation point. After pulling the battery all works well, and I get a window that says back up failed.

I would like to get cm6 but don't want to proceed with out a backup what should I do.

Anrdroid 2.2
baseband c_01.43.01p
kernel 2.6.32.9-g103d848
android-build@apa26#1
build number frg01b

That was the stock recovery screen you saw. It means the CWMod recovery flash didn't take.

From Rom Manager, flash CW Mod recovery 2 or 3 times to make sure it "takes or sticks". then you should be able to back up your ROM.

Some people advocate flashing to SP Recovery (Alternate Recovery at bottom) in ROM Manager (again flash 2 or 3 times) then flash back to CW Mod recovery (again 2 or 3 times).

I ran into the same problem as OP. Had to flash using an older ver of CWMod (within menu) then reflash to current. Worked like a charm.

Cwmod recovery is flaky. I can have it work, then much later, try to do a backup and then it wont boot into recovery.

Makes me wonder if I wont be able to recover from something one of these days because I have no recovery available.

That is exataly what I did and it worked, only I went with BB instead.

Glad that worked for ya. I spent I don't know how many hours reading on here regarding the "what ifs" pertatining to rooting and using CWMod. After I finally talked myself into it on this particular D1 that I said I wouldn't root, I've been having a ball. Effortlesly been through 7-8 different roms just goofing around with them. Currently testing Cyno6 in attempts to troubleshoot the battary drain some of us are having when the phone is powered down.

you'll find yourself changing roms just for the heck of it even if the current one is running perfectly. lol

ROM Manager has an option that erases the recovery before flashingthe new one. Enabling that should fix all these sorts of problems.

Well I just want all to know that Bugless Beast is up and running, android just got way better. I have a stock version of BB, just what is downloaded.
My Pandora freezing problem did not happen tonight, my battery was noticeabliy cooler even though I was using Pandora and bluetooth. Battery life tonight was +2.5 hours longer than lastnight. android 2.2 gave me a jump in my wifi download speed, and BB did also now I download at 9.75 meg average. I have a wider cpu speed range, allthough I still top out at 800mhz, I like my setcpu profile alot better. I am overclocked deeper into the charge. I am very happy with what I have done, as a plus now I can hang with the cool kids.

Then the d1 will keep you entertained I loved that about it. Went through my flashing a new rom daily phase, to flashing only when updates came out or I was angry with my current setup. Im going to miss my droid By far my favorite phone
