New to droid I have an HTC Hero and I want to make sure how do I close apps ?

I think they stay running on the back ground?

There's a debate on this. Gbhil says that nothing closes them, but I found backing out of several apps do in fact "close" them. Some apps don't close no matter what until the OS does it, for example, the stock browser. No matter what you do, it will load up fast either way once it was previously opened or closed. If you are experiencing lag, best way to get around this is to root and load a custom kernal/ROM. Personally, I'm running DamageControl and its a 2.1 (next major update) type ROM that works well and is amazingly fast.

Like the guy above said, I don't think that you have to close out of the applications. The operating system dies it on an as needed basis.
