Hey, New smartphone user here so I have lots of questions. First and foremost - is there a way or an app that will sync with my laptop and as I change a document either on my phone or my computer it will update automatically on the other device? Or do I have to pull my document from a source like Cloud update it, restore it, and then from my other device pull it from cloud again? Without having to store all my documents in cyberspace,I want to be able to access all my files and manipulate them on my laptop, access them from my phone, manipulate them there, if need be and have it automatically updated on my computer hard drive.

Documents edited in an app such as Google Drive will function that way, as long as there is a connection for it to sync.

Drop box comes close to your needs. Exception storage is not local. Otherwise fully automatic and free.
