CM Alpha 2 Released

Up time about 59 hours now, no SOD, no reboots necessary for any reason. :D

As others have said, LCD density sort of lets you set a non-native resolution to the screen. I would definitely make a back up before messing with it. I got stuck in a bootloop after changing a setting and couldn't really undo it without restoring an earlier back up.

I have been running 2.1 since release day and I have not had any SOD's but my wifi has been quite a pain.

It stops working and I have to turn it off for it bit then back on, which fixes it.

What is yours set at?

I've got my density set to 130. I tried 120, but a friend recommended 130 as it is more usable in some apps (120 just got to be too small). I think 130 looks great.

I also tried using a different app - 'LCD Density Changer' which is not free, but allows the settings to pesist through all reboots. I recommend it :)

Same. Wifi is definitely dropping off for me, a lot. I've tried disabling the sleep policy, but it's still dropping off. Have to disable wifi and re-enable, then it's OK. Also, it doesn't seem to connect automatically on boot - I have to open wifi settings, then it will connect.

WPA encryption.

You can edit the build.prop file, though I prefer it to not initially persist in CSS something goes awry. I think I'll give 130 a try though.

I've been pretty fortunate with alpha 2. No SOD and minimal WiFi issues. Only problem I've had with WiFi is when I switch networks, usually I have to turn WiFi off then back on.. Other than that it's running pretty solid for an Alpha.

Everything works great. This dual-boot OS may put the ipad to shame.

I am considering getting an iPad 3 when they launch, I know all the arguments pro and con but I have a raft of apps on my iPod Touch that I'd like to see on the big screen.

Plus, there is some quality music making/controlling apps out there.

However, with ICS around the corner and rumours of better features/performance for such apps I may have to save my cash for now and see if the devs get on board.

It will rock on the TP.

When I reboot Android, it hangs on the black screen. I've let it sit all night to see if it would come back, but it stays at the dark screen. It's not simply turning off, it's hung. Same thing happens when I try to reboot from Android to webOS.

Everything else seems to work.

I have to do the home-powerButton-15sec trick to get it to turn on.

I can reboot from webOS into Android no problem.

This was a virgin TP. Activated it only two days ago, did the update to 3.0.4 immediately. No patches, no tweaks, no overclock, no Preware. The next day (yesterday), loaded CM7 Alpha2 on it. Followed the instructions.

Anybody have an idea what could be wrong? Thanks in Advance.

The problem mysteriously disappeared late last night. I noticed a couple of things got updated at 3am, however.

Same here with addition to the battery life which will hopefully be further improved in the next update.

Battery drop for me during the night (8 hours) with wifi off and airplane mode on and standby is around 7%.

I was having issues with WebOS ("Not Enough Storage Space") and got tired of trying to fix it through Linux terminal. I took the plunge and installed CM7 A2 and was blown away by how polished and speedy it was even in an alpha state. Amazing work.

Question for the developers if any are around. This is academic NOT an ETA question, but once you have a stable release CM for a certain Android phone how easy/difficult are the ports to other Android phones? Does the Touchpad (or other unique device take) 5-10 times larger?

Do you think ICS will make your work much easier? Again, this is NOT an ETA question, I'm just interested in how you do things. Thanks for the great work and time you all put into it.

Definitely still seeing WIFI issues. Sometimes the TP sees the SSID, but will not automatically connect. Even if I turn WIFI off/on, it won't automatically connect. If I tap the SSID, it gives me the option to connect - sometimes I can connect, other times it fails. Other times, the TP doesn't even see the SSID in range.

Also, the WIFI settings hangs a lot. I would say the WIFI settings panel freezes 50% of the time for me, forcing me to force close. I don't think it's the networks to which I'm trying to connect, as my laptop and iPhone are both able to connect without any issues (WPA2).

I do also get the total black screen, unable to wake up from time to time (have to hold power + home to reboot).

Other than those issues, things are good - unfortunately, those are two mildly important things :)

Hi,

I don't think the CM devs read this forum but you could ask over at Rootzwiki.

@dalingrin over on Twitter is also very responsive if you want to ask directly.
