I've had CM7 for a while but now I want more. I have decided to upgrade to CM9. Please, don't say "its in alpha noob dont get it" or something. I want to go on it. Now, anyway, since you have to be on ZVD to get it, and from experience I know that if you update to stock with a non-stock recovery, bad things happen, I have done a lot of googling and found nothing for CM7.2 getting stock recovery. Any help would be appreciated

what version of cm7 do you have now and what recovery do you have installed?

kraven's cm7 is based on the ZVD radio. So you don't need to return to stock to flash cm9.
just download the newest alpha (16E if i remember) and flash from recovery. enjoy!
But it has a black status bar and says its 2.3... I'll trust you guys on this one, even though it says the version is 2.3.7
You don't need to switch basebands or anything, just make sure you wipe data and cache in recovery before you flash it. You also need to dl the ics gapps in the op of the CM9 thread and flash those when you flash the rom.
Just a heads up, alpha 16E may not flash correctly, it didn't work for me, so don't panic, flash to 15F or so, update your recovery and then flash 16. You will love CM9, welcome to the club.
I'm actually going to another rom... at least until it's at beta. CM9's internet is slow, video playback is horrid, etc
Quattrimus CM9 is in beta...internet works fine for me, video playback is fine except HQ on youtube...still an occasional bug or so of course.
ARMv6 OpenMAX libs were never (and apparently will never be) released for ICS.
This doesn't matter any more for me because I just bricked my phone... I tried to get V9 recovery from http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...acks/102880-how-return-stock-v9-recovery.html and now I can't boot my phone into anything... even charging mode thingy

You said you were going to a different ROM, but that link is really unnecessary to flash something else. Are you trying to get back to stock?
When your phone is off, did you try holding home + vol down + power key to get into recovery?
If anything, you might explain what you did and perhaps someone knowledgeable around here can help you out

I can't get into recovery, emergency, charging or anything.
Ouch....man IV been there try to see if Adb will recognize your device if not ouch
Also wondering if the optimus s uses fastboot like the kindle fire
If so we need a utility like kindlefire that lets you switch fastboot modes
