The developer "jmztaylor" has done a good job on an unofficial CM9 Rom that is fairly stable and has a decent following on xda developers. The only things not working on the ROM are Wimax and Video Recording (as of May 15).

I read today that he is leaving the EVO. My question to the community -- will another developer step in and take over the project (have you seen this before) or is a project like this considered dead if the developer leaves?

All the CM9 Roms that I have tried lacks a few things to being complete and stable. This was the closest to being a finished product (build 5-11).

Team DIRT has taken over this development project. They seem to have a following on other ROMS, so time will tell...I hope they are not spread too thin (looks like they are working on 3 different roms at the moment). So far very little has been done to move the project forward -- other than a little clean up and cosmetic stuff.

For all practical purposes this project may be dead. Hopefully Cyanogen team will release something this summer.

I've been using this Team DIRT ROM for 4 days and is much better than AOKP; AOKP had a huge issue with constant reboots, but CM9 from DIRT is very clean and for now it holds fast with no reboots since installed.

I'm still adding more apps to my phone and still works really good. They keep on working on this ROM and hopefully will get it flying pretty good in the near future.

FYI, everything works but the video camera and 4G (at least for what I use it). Even bluetooth holds good, wifi has no issues.

With HTC news today about releasing official ICS to our old EVO 4G, we may get the official drivers in order to get the 4G, that's fantastic news.

Yes, that is basically where jmztaylor left the project. The ROM was very stable and the things not working today are the same things that did not work when he left.

Only costmetic changes since May 11th. The new team seems to be focused on the look and feel of the Rom at present. Perhaps they can't do anything more until drivers released (if they ever are released).

Maybe the Cyanogenmod team can resolve the final hurdles and get us a fully functioning ICS rom.
