Cobra Tag Bluetooth key chain $12 shipped at Groupon

So, I am playing around with an old Jabra BT2010 earpiece that I have in my desk drawer. I paired it to the Moto X with audio for the device disabled on the Moto X end and set it has a trusted device. It is handling the locked/not locked situation fine. Seems to stay paired with phone audio disable. I just have to test for phone call issues now. Thought if it works I will just carry the Jabra in my pocket as a test for a while. Will post more later. If this works I will just cut off the speaker part of the Jabra.

Well on Edit: I loose the pairing when I disable the audio!!! Drats!!! Sometimes it works other times in looses the pairing!!!! Not reliable!!

why not go with NFC tags/keychains? No battery required. You can get 10 or 12 for about $10 on ebay

No bluetooth. The whole point of this is to have a trusted bluetooth device so your lockscreen is bypassed when you have your phone.

Those involve waking the phone and then touching the phone with a tag.

The skip has a built in magnet so you don't have to wake the phone.

However a Bluetooth solution just requires the phone to be in range and be unlocked.

I agree on BT, it is going to be cool when better tags become available. A number of companies are taking orders to create the capital to manufacturer them. I walk out of the house from time to time without my phone. It would be nice to have the tag beep at me!

I really want a Chipolo but they do not support the Moto X yet. I emailed them and they said that they are planning on adding support in an update in January. If they actually do, I'll probably get one. I'd really like to try a Gecko too, but I don't want to pre-order, I'll wait until they are shipping.

Someone had asked about shipping time frames earlier - from Groupon, I ordered one Corbra tag on Dec 4 and another on Dec 7, and they both shipped today Dec 12.

Got an email from Verizon talking about the FitBit device. On the FitBit web site they say that Motorola BT 4.0 is short on library entries for this Smart Bluetooth device to work.

Probably applies to all of these Smart Bluetooth 4.0 Tag devices. Or it was maybe the amount of data that this device needs to transfer. Hopefully Motorola will address this issue. I think I will call or email their CS about this to see what they say.

I am very interested in doing a trusted device security logon setup. But want a device that runs for months not hours on one battery or change.

Looks like first quarter next year might be the time frame!

According to the Droid Maxx and Ultra forums, the Cobra Tag works with their phones so it should work fine with the Moto X. And while it won't last months, it'll last days not hours.

Groupon has the them in stock again. Chris

Got my cobra tag, playing with it now :)

Update: seems the settings get reset upon rebooting phone.

Update 2: tag's beep is weak, but that's not the real reason I bought this anyways - trusted Bluetooth. Works fine. I turned off the alarm because I don't want it beeping if the connection drops.

For those of you using this item, what kind of battery life are you experiencing? I've had it for 2 days, and the first charge lasted < 24 hrs. The 2nd one shows about 60% left after about 18 hrs. I'm not sure if that's typical or that I received a faulty one. I can put up with having to charge it each evening, but of course, the longer the life, the better.
