Coming from a Galaxy Tab 10.1...

I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the good ol' birthday is coming around and I was wondering if this is a good device to upgrade to? I usually prefer larger tablet displays so there's more of a gap between phone and tablet. I also already have a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. I do enjoy the stock experience as well. So...any thoughts?

Oh, and it's my first post as a memeber. :D

Hi,
I own a GT10.1 and just bought a N7. I really like it but I wouldn't consider it an "upgrade". it's just a different gadget in the collection.
I like the N7 because its more portable. Handles very comfortably due to the rubbery back, size and weight. The resolution is higher so it looks sharper. Being a Nexus, you,ll get updates waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster than the GT10.1 (still on Honeycomb).
I kept both because I use them differently. The big screen is nice but I find that it might be too big for reading and casual surfing. 7 inches might actually be ideal unless you're using the tab as a mini tv.
If it was between a 10.1 Nexus and a Samsung 10.1 tab, I'm Nexus all the way. I'm done with Samsung's update schedules. Touchwiz doesn't bring anything that I can't get through the Play Store. The difference is you don't get reasonably timely updates. Acer, HTC, Motorola all get updates quicker.

I'm not sure this is a real answer but I hope it helps.

I also just switched from a galaxy tab 10.1 and I agree with everything this guy stated above.

I have a GT 10.1. I don't plan on getting rid of it. The N7 is a lot more portable, not to mention it'll be updated way before Samsung updates any of their tablets. They serve different purposes for me.

I disagree with the previous posts. I have come from a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and will be selling it or giving it to family here soon. I have found so much more use and so much less frustration with the nexus7 than the galaxy tab. That being said, I really hate touchwiz. I really don't like skinned android after owning a galaxy nexus on VZW and owning the nexus7. My suggestion is, if you can get your hands on one, do it. I've convinced one of my friends to take the plunge and he loves his too. But if you don't mind touchwiz or the size, I cant really see why you'd get a n7. Plus I just rooted mine tonight...shall be fun to see what I do with that.

When i first saw the Nexus 7 i didn't think i needed it because i already had the Tab 10.1 but the tech junkie in me just had to have it, despite never using a 7 inch tablet previously. So i was unsure where the Nexus would fit into my life considering i had a smartphone (One X), a 10 inch tablet and a laptop. But i bit the bullet anyway and bought the 16GB.

After using it for about a week now i am very impressed with the Nexus 7. It's crazy fast and so smooth. And it's portability is an added plus. using a 10 inch tablet at home is good but when i bring it out with me when i'm traveling it can be pretty cumbersome, which is why i usually stuck to my smartphone. but the Nexus 7 is small enough where i can use it while traveling with no problem.

Also, Jelly Bean is leaps and bounds better than Honeycomb, especially the laggyTouchwiz/Honeycomb mix on the Tab 10.1.

Let's see, it boils down to this. Samsung hates supporting their devices with new updates. Google loves to support their devices with new updates. To me, software is the most important aspect now about Android devices. I am NEXUS all the way for good.

This is of course coming from an upset Samsung Droid Charge owner (my first Android device and a big lesson learned). Samsung left us high-and-dry with this phone, I personally refuse to support them again.

VIVA LA GOOGLE!

Just got my N7 today, gave my girlfriend my tab 10.1 and don't regret it at all. The size was my biggest concern but so far I prefer it because its so light and its not as awkward as a 10 inch tablet. Also pure android which is so much better than touchwiz or messing with Roms that are still not that great.

I got my Nexus 7 a week ago. I had a hard time transitioning from the 10.1 Samsung to the 7" Nexus. but now I've got used to it and love the little fellow. its smooth, fast and easily carried around. When I use the Samsung now it feels slow and jerky. Don't know what to do with it cause no one wants to buy. there are a huge quantity for sale in Vancouver. seems like people are either fed up or moving on.

I also have a Tab 10.1 and I barely use it since I got the Nexus 7. They are definitely two different devices but I suppose if developers update their apps for JellyBean I'll be able to get completely off the Tab (which I gave to my wife). My favorite Android app, Remote Your Camera isn't playing nice with the Nexus 7, the LG Magic App for tablets has issues on it (the phone version works great though), Adobe Photoshop Touch doesn't work with, and a few more that still need updating. Once those are updated if they ever are, I won't need the 10.1 anymore.

The reason I really want to use the Nexus 7 all the time in lieu of the Tab is performance. There's no way to sugarcoat it; the Tab has horrible performance, sometimes lagging just trying to switch homescreen pages. It sounds silly but after getting used to my Evo 4G LTE and now the Nexus 7, I just can't stand the Tab's lagginess. The one advantage of the Tab is storage as I have the 32GB model but apps and media can be easily deleted to free up space.

I've sold my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and ordered the Nexus 7. My main reasons are that I want a Google device with the latest software and a wanted a more portable device. The 10.1 was just too big and ended up not being used much because of it.
