Blackbeery hands down has the best Email. Instant email lots of accounts lots of folder all in one place. Any former BB user find a software that works as well as a BB. Free or paid. Huge email person. Texting over three times is lame.

What are you talking about? I was a BB user until this week and GS2 email is lots better. Much much more convenient. The only thing I miss is the LED notification. Maybe I don't miss it because it not constantly blinking does not make me nervous anymore. Same in Gmail. Much easier to use than my BB torch piece of crap.

Only thing I miss about my 9000 and 9700 is the physical keyboard. I would love to get the 9900....but just a keyboard isn't enough for me. Blackberrys are great, but not as good overall as my GS2

Yeah I was a blackberry user for years. Other than the LED, the only other thing I think Blackberry does better is in battery life. But that's mostly because of less than cutting edge technology.

As far as email, yes Blackberry is great at it - either allowing multiple accounts in BIS or server connectivity with BES, but android offers close-to options. You can get the gmail app, yahoo app, or hotmail app, or use the default mail app for pop. Touchdown works great for exchange connectivity, though it costs extra (but so does BES access).

Oh yeah they're keyboards kick ass. But once you're used to the soft KB its not so bad. I think anyway...

I was a BB user also before converting to android. In my experience with email, If you use gmail on android, it is comparable to BB and work very well! If you are using the stock email client or an email app for an email other than gmail, I did not have the same experience when compared to BB. I ended up forwarding my yahoo email through gmail to get the push. It works well this way and I know several who have yahoo that have had issues using the stock email app on the phone or the yahoo app for email which is lame IMO.

I'm new to the SG2 from the 9900 and I can tell you, every time I send an email, I wish I still had my blackberry. Android just doesn't cut it.

That being said, most of the stuff I do on the phone right now, I prefer the Galaxy S2.

But back to the issue at hand. I've settled on using K9 for email right now. Reason primarily is that you get a few more configuration options like keeping email on your phone after you delete it off the server (which was important for me).

The stock email app has less configuration options but you get more icon shortcuts for sending emails which on K9 you get none so you have to always hit the menu key. I bounced back and forth between the two for about 1-2 weeks and settled on K9.

I really cant understand the point for the stock Gmail app.

Going back to BB vs Android for email:
- you lose the LED with the Galaxy S2... something I really miss as you never know if you have an email until you check your phone.
- you don't really get push email with K9 but you can configure it to check more often if you feel like you will miss something so no real loss there. I think you get push email with the stock app but its other limitations keep me from using it.
- you lose a spell checker. I still can't understand how Android doesn't have this. Boggles the mind. And you'll get fanboy responses that say you don't need a spell checker or you can use other apps where you type your text in first and then copy-and-paste it into an email. But that is inefficient and silly.
- some keyboard options are neat (swype for example) but they still aren't as efficient as a real keyboard and because you are more prone to make mistakes on a virtual keyboard, it really speaks the need to have a spell checker. That being said, because you don't get a spell checker, I'll sacrifice speed for swype as it cuts down on spelling errors since it will only give you words that exist (you still get the chance it gives you the wrong word but at least it will be spelled correctly!)
- losing the keyboard makes email generally less efficient as well for all the commands as almost everything requires going into the menu first. This is why at least the stock email app has short cuts at the top of the screen for things like 'compose' an email but it can't replace having keyboard shortcuts or the icon short cuts that a BB has with OS7.
- email setup is much more of a pain on K9, not too bad with the stock app but again, not as easy as on a BB or not as easy to transfer to a new device. Maybe be better if you have difficult email but for the average user, there is just way too much stuff there that you will never use.

As you can guess, I'm not a fan of email on the Galaxy S2 or Android in general but emailing is only about 20% of the use of the phone so my frustration gives way as soon as I start to use the browser or say download an app. Much more efficient and enjoyable on the Galaxy S2 and since that is what I use it for predominantly, I'm okay giving up the strengths the BB had (or at least my aggravations aren't enough to make me want to go back for the time being).

My two cents... but then again, I'm a new Android user so there may be ways to do some more of the stuff that a BB used to do better on an Android device but I just haven't found it yet.

Ok you and one othe former BB user understand. perhaps the others only use yahoo. and gmail.
i used several providers and my companies sever too. I miss getting Emial right away all in one place with a blinking light. I love the GS2 also and think it was great choice. I to am trying K9 and its ok but not the bomb. And the stock leave alot to be desired. I hope someone make a better app or K9 changes something. Im a heavy email user ( I dont text clinents)

Sound to me like email is your number one priority in a smartphone. If so you should probably stick with BB as I believe their emailing ability is unmatched. I went through that for a few weeks after switching from BB. In my opinion Android offers much more of a multimedia experience. Browsing, apps, widgets etc.

I love the gmail app as it allows my to do about everything I need to do with 3 email accounts etc. I certainly do not want to keep an email after I delete it lol! I want it gone! It syncs with my box perfectly!

Anyways, good luck to you!

Motorola put a app on this phone that allows all email and social media messages to be in one inbox. It is called, "messaging". The caveat is one has to use the stock non-gmail email options. Also, this app does not pull gmail emails in, at least I do not recall seeing any when I briefly used it.

I too used BB before, I had BB work phones and android personal phones. I prefer android phones because the Google integration is seemless. Where as on BB the Google integration was not nearly as good as android. I am a heavy Google user. After, back in the day, Microsoft was trying to buy yahoo, I jumped ship to gmail and Google because dislike how Microsoft ruins everything it touches. This is also why I am a former PC user as well. Anyway, even having used BB os7, I still prefer the android os and the larger virtual keyboard on the photon.

Prefer android because ---
1. It seems more stable and does not freeze up like BB os did

2. The multitasking is better, IMO. I feel that the photon has even better multitasking then iPhone having some experience using a iPod touch with the latest ios on it.

3. I do not have to do battery pulls. Just turning off and turning on my phone once a day is enough to keep my phone happy. Battery pulls were a pain due to my need to protect my phone with a case and screen saver at all times.

Lol! Forgot about the daily battery pulls on bb! I still have a bb 9650 on verizon for work and that is the first thing the help desk asks you when you call with an issue!

I second the vote for K-9. Coming from BB for 7 years, I missed push email, the keyboard and notification led. Now that I've been using an Android phone for 2 months, I don't miss the BB. I use K-9. It's the closest I've found to BB email, but it's still not as good. I switch between the gmail app and K-9, but use K-9 most of the time. It's still clumsy compared to BB email, but it works. Besides, my last 3 BB's were garbage and didn't work most of the time, so I don't mind having an outstanding phone that works with a different email interface. Besides, I read an article that RIM just re-packaged their older Bold 9000 in order to have something that appeared to be new to compete with Android. Their -real- new phones will actually be released Q1.

I love Android and even email on Android. It just works. I'm a heavy email user, as well. I don't text much. I think K-9 is your best option. It provides features as close as you're going to get to BB mail.
